I always find it funny how the descriptions of oppa almost never acknowledge that it is also an affectionate term for an older man who is your boyfriend. I was literally laughed at by a whole group of Koreans when I was first learning the language and called my friend's older brother "oppa." They said that I was calling him my boyfriend. I was teased about it mercifully for years.
Edit: I do want to point out their definition is correct, but there is another more flirty connotation that can be associated with oppa.
