My view over his shoulder shifts as he pulls the arrow out of my stomach, which should probably hurt but I can’t feel any pain now, so it doesn’t matter.
All of my nerves that are leading to my brain have died, so I am paralyzed. My brain should be dead by now too, but it isn't completely.
I read somewhere that it takes about six minutes after death for the brain to die as well.
Yet, here I am still thinking, seeing, and even hearing. It's definitely been over six minutes.
Maybe the studies were wrong, or maybe I am being powered by something other than my brain.
Is it because of my magical abilities? Or something else?
He turns towards the way we all came from. I wonder why he is still holding me, is he bringing me to where the dead bodies get burned.
Since this is war, they can’t be bothered to dig graves for all of the casualties. So it is expected that if you die, your body will go up in ashes with the others.
I hear that the kingdom only burns their enemies corpses and bury their lost, but the empire burns them all. “
As we walk away from where I died I see a pool of blood from where I was laying, as well as the blood soaked arrow that he threw on the ground.
It is hard to believe that my small body produced that much blood.
The blood probably blends in well with my red curly hair.
He stayed quiet as we walked. I can’t tell what he is thinking at all, it is frustrating.
I feel every step that he makes and he walks quite a distance before reaching his other soldiers at some sort of camp.
“Welcome back sir… “ A soldier says awkwardly.
He is probably wondering why I am here, ya I am wondering the same thing bud. Why did he bring me here?
“You there, go get a BRT from the Med’s camp. Bring it to the Commander’s tent” He orders one of the men.
Blood Relation Test? I’ve heard about those before, as the name suggests, it tests two peoples’ blood and tells their relation to one another.
Although it is an odd thing to have as an essential of war.
I guess he wants to see if I am related to him in some way. He said something about someone he thinks was my mother earlier.
“Yes sir.” The man stood with his feet together and saluted. He turned and walked off.
If I remember right, the Blood Relation Test is a Magic item, I read a book on Magic Items a while back.
You put a drop of blood from two people in through the top. If it changes colors then you are related, and the color it changes to determines the exact relationship.
Red is No Relation (doesn’t change color)
Orange would be a distant relative but not specified. So it could be Uncle/Aunt or Niece/Nephew, or something even more distant.
Yellow would mean you are cousins.
Green is for Siblings.
And lastly, blue would mean it is a Child/Parent Relation. It could also be a Grandparent/Grandchild Relation though.
I could feel all of the passing stares on me as he walked past the tents.
Not too long later we arrived at a tent and entered.
“Commander.. I have some news.”
Why would he bring me in front of your Commander?
He was quiet for a second and I felt him looking at me, though I still couldn't see him. “Go ahead..” in a calm voice.
“I believe I found the lost child of Your Highness and my daughter.”
Your Highness? You mean to tell me that the Prince of this country himself is commanding his army in this war?
In the Empire, where I am from, the Imperial family would just sit at home and enjoy parties while letting someone else handle the war.
Anyway, I think I need to take a quick step back for a minute and just say, Heh?
You think I am the child of the Prince? Not possible, I was born in the Empire and my brother had told me that I could never meet my father, so I always assumed he had died.
“Are you sure?” His chair hit the floor as he stood up quickly. “But then… is he?...” He said urgently.
“He is… no longer with us, Sir…”
Well I am with you, I just can’t interact with you, I am merely a spectator.
The thing that is actually difficult to understand is that he believes him, is everyone in this Kingdom delusional.
I can’t be the Prince, I am in no way Princely and only have low blood, that's what everyone tells me at least..
“Unfortunately… It couldn’t be helped…” He said guiltily with his voice shaking slightly and his head tilted down.
“i.. see…. Did you bring a Relations test?”
“I had one of the soldiers fetch it.”
“Set him on the bed for now while we wait.”
They both sound so sad while talking, I can’t help but think this entire situation is odd, I didn't think anyone would be sad at my death, and these people don't know me.
He sets my body down on the cott that is in the tent and sits down just past my feet.
They are both quiet, and all I can do is stare up at the ceiling of the tent, waiting.
The Commander comes into my limited eye range.
He has white hair with… yellow eyes. Maybe we are related, I’ve never met anyone in the Empire with the same color of eyes as me.
“He has yellow eyes, the same as mine, and red hair, similar to Esme’s.”
Esme, is that her name? If he is my father then that would be the name of my mother.
It is such a pretty name anyway.
“I asked his name before. It is Koi. He is Twelve years old.” He said quietly
“It’ll be thirteen years this year since she disappeared without a trace.”
You crazy people are starting to get me to believe that this is true, don’t mess with a dead kid’s feelings.
If I do believe what you are saying, then why did it have to be now? After I died.
Why did I have to go most of my life without anybody that holds me close and now after I have died I learn that there were people looking for me the entire time.
What a scam. I probably can’t stay here for much longer either, my vision is starting to become blurry.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t see his eyes when he was running… “ The Commander looks over at him.
“Sirs, I have the test you requested.” A man came in holding a round bottle with clear liquid inside.
“Good, bring it here.” The Commander said urgently.
“Yes sir.” He handed over the bottle to the Commander.
“Go back now.”
“Yes sir.”
He takes the needle and pokes his finger, a dab of blood pours out and he drops it into the bottle.
The blood drips into the bottle creates an ominous red cloud inside the clear liquid.
He then drops to his knee beside me and pokes my finger. His face looks like he is in pain.
Couldn’t he have used the pool of blood in my stomach?
I guess that has dried by now though. It should probably be fresh blood, well as fresh as it can be I suppose.
He scraped the blood from my finger into the bottle and it mixed with his to fill the bottle with only a dark red liquid.
He then spins the bottle to mix it thoroughly, it will take exactly a minute to show results.
Which must be the longest minute ever. They were both quiet while waiting for the results, if there are any changes.
The silence is killing me.. Oh wait…. It’s killing me again…. Too soon?
Finally 60 seconds goes by and we have the results.
And the results are…. (drumroll please)
huh? Wait, bring it back!
My eyes… are going dark… No, I need to know the answer!
I….am…. Feeling sleepy…
