I couldn't tell whether my eyes were open or closed.

I couldn't tell if the world had swallowed the light around me, or me instead.

Warmth spread like electricity through my body.

My members felt the pressure of it.

A womb.

A home.

Wet.

My first instinct was to move.

It was hard at first.

Took effort.

Felt like dense mud.

Then blood hit my tongue, and the mud felt different.

Felt like ripping tissue.

A memory that didn’t belong to me, but felt likely familiar, of a warm day underneath the warm sun, where my fingers felt the texture of a watermelon.

Made me hungry.

My mouth watered.

I took bites as I moved.

Made it easier.

My eyes met a red surface.

I stretched my fingers towards it.

Testing.

Reaching.

Then forcing.

Stretching.

Faster and faster.

The more I tried, the more it stretched.

I bit it.

Over and over.

I heard a sound like thunder.

Twice at a time.

Again and again.

It wasn’t mine.

I wanted it to stop.

I needed it to stop.

I tore it apart eventually.

Breathing for the first time.

The world was red, warm, and wet.

And I felt hungry.
