Or maybe it must have been the sun lighting up the meadow, whose warmth I couldn't grasp.

Perhaps the lady by the end of it all, quiet as a painting, alive as a doll.

Odd.

Feverish.

One foot after the other guided me closer.

Her eyelashes touched her cheeks so gently that my heart stopped. It beat up again when her gaze met mine.

"I've been waiting for you", she said, with lips that barely opened.

I stopped moving, because moving felt too easy.

Moving felt odd. Feverish.

"I need to wake up", the words escaped me, but they came from everywhere, and nowhere inside of me. 

She answered fondly with words that felt too sharp, "You're not leaving", accompanied by fairies, "We're gonna keep you here".

It was a dream, I knew.

Fairies don't exist, I reminded myself.

But something in those small creatures felt... odd. Feverish.

I stretched out a hand, carefully, slower than a heartbeat.

It came to me.

It shouldn't have, I thought.

My fingers closed around it, cradling firmly, holding still.

It was then, that I wondered, "How fragile could it be?", and before I could think again, my other hand broke it.

The sound was... odd. Feverish.

A dream, but even so, the screams that came after echoed in my ears.

More fairies came.

They suffered the same fate.

Bones broke like biscuits.

Bodies were torn apart easily with a twist or two.

I eventually woke up because I knew it was a dream.

Odd.

And feverish.

However, I could still hear their bones breaking between my fingers.

And I still wondered how fragile things could be.
