My legs are dangling from the ledge. The scent of rain filled the air around me. I watched the trees dance in the wind. It was just Mother Nature and me here.
I shouldn’t be wasting my time here and train instead, but for some reason, I just don’t have the energy to move.
I glanced at my left hand.
Is there any way for me to make it stronger?
I closed my eyes and sighed out loud. My phone suddenly vibrated in my pocket, ruining my peace. I opened my eyes with a scowl on my face and fished my phone out of my pocket to stare at Caleb’s name display.
I put the call on speaker, “Hello?”
“Where are you? You're supposed to be training. Come back immediately.”
“Yes, sir,” I mumbled and cut the call. I got up and dusted off my clothes.
I like walking around town since it makes me feel at home... at peace.
Being around people whom we worked hard to protect made me feel human. This town is always at peace. Since I was zoning out so much, I bumped into a little girl, sending her books flying everywhere. I apologized and began to pick them up one by one. I smiled at her and handed them back.
But before I could leave, she grabbed my shirt from behind, “Do you really think you're safe, exorcist?” Her voice froze me just like in my nightmares.
I turned around, but she was gone. Her voice sounded just like that girl from Noe’s family. But the little girl from now looked nothing like her. She had pigtails instead of a pixie haircut, normal skin that wasn’t radiating, and green eyes. She didn't have dark midnight skin like the Noe family either.
But why did her voice-
My phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket, pulling me out of my thoughts. I didn’t check it, but just kept walking.
I don’t know why, but I felt that if I stopped walking, something awful would happen.
I kept walking back home with a blank mind. I really didn’t want to admit it, but I was scared.
Scared that I would end up dying this time.
Scared Ari would die because of me.
Scared...

A.G. Preet here!!!
Hope you liked that chapter. I wanted to show Reika's fear and that even tho she is an exorcist, deep down she's also afraid since she too is a human.
Rookie exorcists and lifelong best friends Reika and Ari are dragged into a war hidden from humanity—one that was never meant to be uncovered.
When supernatural hunters rise in service of an ancient evil long thought buried, forbidden truths surface—and the line between loyalty and survival begins to blur.
Hunted, outmatched, and running out of time, they must survive a fate written in blood—even if it means betraying each other and leaving one another for dead.
