At the school gates, the driver stands beside the car, smoking.
“I’m here to pick you up,” he says when he sees Rex.
Rex walks past him.
Then stops.
And recalls the driver on the phone yesterday. His mother nearby.
A flashback from the other day
a car already waiting the day of the shoot. Right after his fight with his father.
The timing lines up too well.
He turns.
“Tell me something. Did my father send that car? The day I went to the shoot… after our fight?”
or my mom..?
are you ebing paid fully to be on my tail all the time..?
The driver sighs.
drops the cigarette and rubs off from foot
“You were really cute when you were little....unlike now”
Rex’s expression changes instantly.
“Watch your mouth before you lose your job.”
“I work for your mother,” the driver replies calmly. “Until she says otherwise, I’m not going anywhere. You can’t fire me.”
Rex glares at him.
“I don’t mean to irritate you. I’ll write you an apology email if that helps... but your parents really care about you"
thatis why i want you to come and sit in the car and let me take you home
things are a little messy right now
Silence...
“It was your mother’s order,” the driver continues. “To drive you to the shoot. And to keep an eye on you. I was told to stay on standby in case something happened.”
Rex scoffs. “Wow. I feel so warm inside.”
He turns and starts walking away.
“I can take you home,” the driver calls. “Please. They’re waiting.”
