The Poorly Chronicled Adventures of Ratleap and Friends

Narrator: Ah yes, here we are once again following our brave heroes. Tasked with protecting and delivering the cart to the king of-....what are they doing!?

Ratleap rushes forward, a stick raised high above his head before bringing it down on a round goopy monster that looks like it's made of jelly. The stick is absorbed by the jelly creature.

Ratleap freezes.

He tugs once.

Twice.

A third time for good measure.

But the stick does not come back, and Ratleap gawks in surprise before stepping back, his tail twitching.

"It's no use! The Jelly is too strong." He squeaks.

Narrator: It is a level two monster….

Akira adjusts his glasses and clears his throat "Houndheart, I choose you!"

Houndheart nods and races forward, kicks at the earth leaping up high into the sky only to come crashing down spinning in a tight ball only to unfurl when he is close to the Jelly and slams his tail onto the jiggly body.

Houndheart lands perfectly on his feet. Yet as he glances towards the monster only to have his green eyes widen in alarm. "Impossible…"

It was unharmed.

That catches the others' attention, alarming them. Houndheart, the strong knight of all Halfbanner, and even he couldn't beat it!

Ratleap rushes off to find another stick “…Maybe hit it again?”

Houndheart stares at the jelly, then at his thick tail. “…I hit it very hard.”

Taigo sighs “It’s jelly. It can't be very hard to beat.”

Narrator: Jelly, wiggly blobby creatures that are found in the fields of Halfbanner. They are considered pests and are often farmed for food. However I must state that even children can beat the Jelly.

Taida gasps, a jelly!? Like jam and cheese jelly? Like peanut butter and jelly? Or- oh if it's really made of jelly that means….

Her eyes light up. And without a second thought, she bounds over hobbling excitedly, licking her muzzle as she zeros in on the pulsating pink glob.

The little blue dog sinks her fangs into the jelly causing it to slurp loudly as it shifts and reforms around her tiny mouth. The others watch in silence as Taida is swallowed up into the monster.

"TAIDAAAA!" Taigo howls, as he scampers forward throwing himself at the jelly "Let my sister go you son of a-" he's splatted by a stray globby tentacle sending him toppling over.

Yet it didn't stop Taida from taking as mouthfuls of the beast as possible. If anything, she seems more excited. Each swallow zapping her and the slimy goopy monster.

The jelly quivers violently. Clearly not used to this kind of response from an enemy.

“Is she… eating it?” Akira asks.

“Unfortunately,” Taigo groans from the ground, “yes.”

After the fifth swallow and zap, the monster dissolves. Not only dropping Taida but the stick, a few jagged coins, and orbs of experience points for each. Taida lies there content, licking her muzzle belly full of monster jam.

"Taida, you idiot!" Taigo growls as he makes his way to his sister, licking her face. Taida's eyes are wide and round "Taigo, it tasted like strawberries and fire!"

Taigo sighs, shaking his head.

Narrator: The Jelly monsters are not safe to eat 'raw'. You must cook these monsters to disable their ability sacks.

"Okay, now where too?" Akira asks as he adjusts his goggles.

"That's a good question…cuz honestly I feel like we were supposed to do something." Ratleap mutters, crossing his arms and tilting his head in puzzlement.

"The cart…" Taigo barks.

"I dunno…I don't remember anything about a cart. I would've marked it down." Akira says, flipping through his clipboard.

Taigo rolls his eyes "It's still the cart."

Silence washes over the group as the wind gently rustles the leaves.

"Still doesn't sound right." Ratleap says.

Narrator: It is in fact the cart.

In a world… just like yours, lies a kingdom much like the ones you read about in fairytales. In that kingdom lives a king—and his very questionably loyal, possibly trustworthy, definitely unsupervised knights…

In this tale you’ll meet:

Ratleap—
an… abomination…whose heart is in the right place. That’s it. That’s all I’m legally allowed to say at this point in time. For your safety.

Houndheart—
a seasoned warrior, a survivor, and somehow the only one who knows how to clean up after the others. Sad I know.

Taigo—
He’s quiet. observant.
And please don't ask why he’s staring at you like that.

Taida—
Well, let’s just… skip that one.

And Akira—…Let’s just say…that he’s the other one.

These five are the sole knights in charge of protecting the kingdom…yes, I know…and they haven’t even started the quest yet.
