I loved you all your life, I’ll miss you for the rest of mine. We met in a park, it was a sunny day. Do you remember that? There was a breeze, soft, warm and safe. I was watching the ducks play in the pond. You were walking your dog, Marko. Do you remember? He ran up to me and tugged you closer. We laughed for a few moments before letting the silence take over. We sat down together on the cold grass, feeling the dew with our hands. Do you remember that day? Afterwards we walked to the ice cream shop near the park. You got coffee, I got chocolate. You always liked coffee. We always had it stocked inside the house. Surely you remember that right? You gave me your phone number and I gave you mine. That night you texted me asking to see if we could hang out the next day. I said yes, enthralled with seeing you again. That night I dreamed of seeing you and Marko and talking about the random things of the world. Do you remember that? Do you remember ever meeting me? Do you remember buying our house together? It was a beautiful yellow house, and with a white roof. We planted sunflowers in the garden, making it truly peaceful. It was two stories with a forest of trees surrounding us. Do you remember that? Do you remember our wedding? The light yellow colors draped around the courtyard. Our little Marko running around in his oversized tuxedo made for medium sized dogs. Do you remember the chocolate cake we got, the huge three tiers on it with sunflowers painted on with frosting and the song we danced to? The one that we both listened to even before we knew each other. Do you remember the day we adopted Tom? Do you remember that? A young boy, only seven years old. He had lost his parents at five and remembered most of it. He had brown hair and green eyes. His skin was freckled with vitiligo and meshed beautifully. Do you remember his favourite color? It was yellow, just like yours. Do you remember your favourite color? It was yellow, peaceful, safe, calming and most of all, meant happiness. Do you remember setting alarms for much earlier than usual to get the kiddo to school? Do you remember getting coffee afterwards and then going back to sleep before we both head to work for the day? Do you remember you were an author? You were the best of the best, your descriptions drawing people in and helping people understand the world inside your head. Do you remember my job? The simple job at the library, helping people check out books and find the perfect book for them? Do you remember our anniversary? We took the day off to go and spend a day taking care of ourselves. Do you remember reading to each other and enjoying the company? Do you remember watching the sunset as we ate at a restaurant? Do you remember falling asleep together, holding each other tightly. Do you remember anything? Is everything gone? I guess I am not asking the right questions. Do you remember the car accident? Do you remember the drunk driver? Do you remember the pain? Do you remember what I sound like? Do you remember this world? Are you too far gone? Do you remember the hospital at all? Do you remember hearing me there? Do you remember feeling me hugging you? Do you remember anything at all? Do you remember our favourite music playing at your funeral? Do you remember Tom crying as he struggled to stand from his place to see you for the last time. I love you my love, I always will. I loved you all your life, I’ll miss you the rest of mine.
