Fluffy was scared, obviously. He was still with Purps, hiding behind a tree, but there were poachers on the loose. Hopefully they wouldn’t hear them and would just walk by, but they still heard their footsteps coming closer and closer. Their breaths got heavy, with each footstep they heard.
Then, something else happened. Something Fluffy couldn't've expected, especially with how nice Purps had been to him. Fluffy watched as Purps began to run away, swiftly yet quietly, at the sound of them getting close.
“Where are you going?” Fluffy firmly whispered, trying his best not to be heard. He looked back with a sorrowful gaze, but didn’t say anything. Instead, he began to run even further away.
“Are you just gonna leave me here? What if they find me? I can’t fly, y’know.” Fluffy explained, but there wasn’t much of a response with this either. He just looked back at me with another sorrowful gaze, as he uttered the words;
“Sorry.” He was fearing for his life, but there was nothing he could do.
‘That bastard, why did he betray me like that? If I was ever gonna die, I’d at least wanna die with someone with me.’ Fluffy thought. He heard them walking away, thankfully. Maybe he would get to live. But he heard another sound. Could it be more of them? Then, there were a few sounds, one he couldn’t describe, the other he could. It was voices. Kura and Kumoto. Fluffy was so relieved to hear some familiar voices, he finally let himself breathe normally again. At this point, Purple Cat was nowhere to be seen. He was glad, because he didn’t wanna make friends with him anymore. Why would he? Purps seemed so nice at first, but he guessed when you’re in the most dire situation, that’s when everyone’s true colours are revealed. ‘I’m just glad my real friends managed to show up.’ Fluffy thought. He peeked out from behind the tree just to make sure it was them. Sure enough, it was. They were beating up the poachers. Looks like they’d come here on their ship.
He watched from afar, feeling safer knowing who was here.
Then, once the last of the poachers had disappeared, we started calling his name.
“Fluffy?” Me and Kumoto both said in unison, with fear, as we were still unaware of what happened to him. But we knew he was here, since we asked people in all the streets he walked past if they saw him, so they directed us to where we are now.
“Where are you Fluffy?” He jumped out from behind the tree with excitement, and a few tears in his eyes after thinking he was gonna die.
“Fluffy!” I exclaimed, as I noticed him running towards me, wings wide open. I picked him up and gave him a nice, warm hug. Then Kumoto came over, and she hugged him too.
“Where were you?” Kumoto asked, with relief.
Fluffy noticed Purple Cat, up in a tree, looking, watching, judging us.
“Well, I’m kinda tired now. I’ll tell you the story later. Let’s just go home now.” He said as he watched Purple Cat, with him sitting in my arms. Purple Cat jumped from branch to branch, onto the ground, before coming to talk to us.
We turned around, about to head onto the ship, then promptly spun around.
“Wait.” Said Purple Cat.
“Can… Can I come with you?”
He quietly asked, sounding pretty sorry. Fluffy didn’t look like he was going to forgive him easily, though.
We all stopped, and turned to look at him.
“No!” They were all looking at me now.
“Fluffy, who’s this?” I asked. Fluffy crossed his wings.
“He’s no one. Now let’s go home already.”
We didn’t move, confused as to what was going on.
“Wait, before you leave, can I just explain? Please?” He said.
“Fluffy, whoever this guy is, I think they wanna apologize. Maybe you should hear them out.”
I looked at him. He did seem like he genuinely wanted to say sorry.
“Fine. Say what you wanna say.” He took his hat off and placed it on his chest.
“Look, I’m sorry for leaving. I just don’t trust myself with friends. It seems like every time there’s someone I’m getting close to, I end up hurting them, whether it be directly or indirectly. I’m not saying I’m close to you, I mean, we did just meet today. But I could tell you’re a nice person. When those guys came, I thought it was my bad luck following me wherever I went. I thought ‘I’mna stay with this guy. I gotta make sure he’s ok.’ Then when I heard em’ gettin closer, I thought it was more’ve my bad luck. So I thought if I ran away, they’d come after me instead. I felt bad leavin’ ya’ behind cause I knew ya’d take this the wrong way. So yeah, I’m sorry.”
After he was finished, they all looked at me again, to see what I’d say. I felt bad for him now. I guess that means he doesn’t have any friends.
“I accept your apology. You can come, but why do you wanna come home with us of all people?”
Fluffy asked, still looking somewhat upset, but being able to see Purps’ side as well.
“Well, I saw yer friends fightn’ off them bad guys, so I thought ‘Well damn, they’re strong.’ And I knew that if I stayed with you guys, I wouldn’t be fightin’ bad luck on my own.”
Fluffy looked like he was gonna let him come home. He couldn’t not. And me n’ Kumoto were excited to have a new house mate with us. Besides, what’s the worst that could happen? Yes you shouldn’t invite a stranger to live with you, but he’s a cat. I think if me and Kumoto could beat up those poachers, we could easily defend ourselves from a cat. But what does this mean? What could the future hold for the three of us, and our new housemate, Purps?
