Living a double life means even the most boring chores feel like a mission. Today, I finally went to buy curtains. I've been using old sheets to cover my windows—hardly the "glamorous" life people imagine. I bought moss green and brown. They're ugly, but they block the light. That's all I need right now.

But on the bus ride back, my heart nearly stopped.

I ran into a guy I went to school with. David knew him too. We used to call him "Ghost." He was that strange, invisible student everyone ignored. He didn't recognize me at first—probably because "Ghost" has grown up.

Long hair, a well-groomed beard, stylish clothes. He's actually... attractive.

He asked for my number. He even asked me out for next Saturday. I played it cool, telling him I'm "new at work" and don't know my schedule yet.

I texted David later: "I found Ghost. His real name is Caleb. And he's hot." David's reply? "He's not attractive. You have terrible taste in men."

I laughed out loud. Maybe he's right. Or maybe I'm just looking for a distraction from the Emporium.
