Ashes of Moonfall

The Watcher of Ash

The Watcher of Ash

Mar 08, 2026

The village had never felt so quiet.

Ash covered everything like a pale blanket—rooftops, roads, trees. Even the wind seemed weaker, as if the world itself was exhausted after the night the sky burned.

Lira walked slowly through the narrow street, pulling her cloak tighter around herself. People whispered as she passed.

Some looked afraid.

Others looked curious.

Ever since the strange mark appeared on her arm, she had felt their eyes on her everywhere she went.

She kept her sleeve pulled down, hiding the glowing symbol beneath the fabric.

But hiding it didn’t stop the feeling growing inside her.

Something had awakened.

And it was getting stronger.
That night, Lira couldn’t sleep.

The moonlight poured through her small window, painting pale silver lines across the floor. She turned over in her bed again and again, but the strange burning sensation in her arm refused to fade.

Finally she sat up.

The mark was glowing again.

Soft.

Pulsing.

Calling.

Almost like it wanted her to follow it somewhere.

Lira carefully stepped outside into the cold night air.

The village was silent.

No voices.

No footsteps.

Only the faint whisper of ash drifting through the darkness.

She began walking without thinking, guided only by the strange pull in her arm.

Past the houses.
Past the empty well.

Toward the edge of the forest.

The deeper she walked into the trees, the brighter the mark became.

Branches creaked softly above her. Shadows stretched long across the ground as the broken moon rose higher in the sky.

Then suddenly—

The mark burned.

Pain shot through her arm.

Lira cried out and dropped to one knee.

A strange glow spread across the forest floor, reflecting from the symbol beneath her skin.

And for a brief moment—

The ash on the ground began to move.

It lifted slowly into the air, swirling around her like gray mist.

Lira stared in shock.

“I… I didn’t do that…”
But the ashes continued to rise, spinning gently around her like they were alive.

Then the wind stopped.

Everything became still.

And a voice spoke from the darkness.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Lira’s head snapped up.

A tall figure stepped from between the trees.

He wore a long black cloak that moved like shadow in the moonlight. His face was partially hidden beneath a hood, but his eyes shone sharply in the dark.

Lira quickly stood up.

“Who are you?” she asked.

The man didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, his gaze fell to her arm.

To the glowing mark beneath the fabric.

His expression darkened.

“So it really exists,” he murmured quietly.
Lira stepped back.

“What are you talking about?”

The man finally looked at her again.

“The mark on your arm,” he said calmly.

“The mark of Moonfall.”

A cold chill ran through her body.

“How do you know about it?” she whispered.

For a moment, the stranger didn’t speak.

Then he looked up toward the cracked moon above the forest.

“Because,” he said quietly,

“I’ve been searching for it… for fifteen years.”

Lira’s heart began to race.

The stranger took one slow step closer.

And the ashes on the ground began to tremble again.

“You may not understand it yet,” he continued.

“But that mark is not a blessing.”

His eyes met hers.
It is the beginning of the end.”

Far above them, the fractured moon glowed brighter.

And somewhere in the darkness beyond the stars—

Something ancient was waking.

The village still smolders from the night the sky burned, but the ashes are not quiet.

As strange symbols begin appearing across the ruined walls, whispers spread among the survivors—whispers of an ancient mark that should never have returned. When Kael discovers the same mark etched into his own skin, he realizes the disaster was not an accident.

Something is watching.

Something older than the kingdom… older than the stars that once lit the sky.

As the truth begins to surface, Kael must decide whether the mark on his body is a curse meant to destroy him—or a power meant to awaken.

But every answer he seeks only leaves behind more ashes.

And in those ashes… something is waiting.

The night the moon shattered, the sky forgot how to heal.

It did not explode in fire.
It cracked — a silver fracture spreading across the heavens like a wound that refused to close. When the first piece fell, ash followed.

For three years, it never stopped.

It buried Lyria in silence. Cities turned to graveyards. Rivers taste like rust. And the survivors carry crescent scars that burn beneath the broken moon.

Kai Delmar presses his sleeve over the mark on his wrist.

Tonight, it burns harder than ever.

Because the ash has stopped.

For the first time in three years, the sky is clear — and the silence feels wrong.

Then the voice comes.

Not from the wind.
Not from the earth.
From the fractured moon itself.

The Heart still beats.

Visions flood his mind — chains wrapped around silver light, a shadow reaching through flame.

Find the Moon’s Heart.

The ash at his feet begins to rise.

Across the wastelands, figures pull themselves from the grey dunes — hollow-eyed, formed of ash and bone.

The Hollowed are waking.

And when Kai turns back toward the city, he knows one thing with terrifying certainty—

Whatever the Moon’s Heart is…
It is connected to her.

The Ashfall was never an accident.

It was a warning.

And tonight—

The warning ends.
