The morning was cool. Korvath slept curled on the grass, imposing and motionless like a statue of sapphire. April approached slowly. Her heart was pounding, and the thought of the power she carried inside made her stomach tighten. Two hearts… two energies so different, intertwined with her. The responsibility was enormous, yet strangely familiar, as if something within her already knew what to do, even while fear tried to suffocate it.
Birds sang in the distance, their chirping marking the rhythm of her thoughts. The rustling of leaves moved by the light wind accompanied the forest’s tension-filled silence. The air smelled of wildflowers and damp earth, and the morning frost made the blades of grass sparkle like tiny crystals under the sun’s rays.
Korvath lowered his head, his trembling nostrils sensing something far away.
“Listen… something is moving beyond the forest. The woods can feel it,” he murmured in a deep voice, as if every word had been weighed by time.
April inhaled deeply, trying to sense it as well. The air vibrated with a subtle tension, almost imperceptible, and for a moment the world seemed suspended, waiting for what was about to happen.
“Korvath?” April whispered.
The dragon’s eye slowly opened.
“I’m listening, little Blue Vein,” he replied calmly.
Sitting on the grass, hands clasped on her knees, April opened her heart.
“I… I need to tell you something. It’s about my heart.”
April’s hands trembled slightly, nervously intertwined on her knees. Every word was like a drop in the silence, heavy with emotion and fear of judgment. The gentle wind tousled her hair, and for a moment she feared Korvath wouldn’t understand.
Korvath raised his head.
“Your heart is part of your magic. Speak,” said Korvath.
“I… I think I love two people. Star and Aria,” April confessed.
Her heart raced wildly, and her hands trembled slightly as if they had a life of their own. Her breathing grew heavy, and for a moment she had to close her eyes to calm herself.
Korvath tilted his head, watching her carefully. His wings tightened slightly, as if sensing the storm of emotions swirling inside her.
Memories surfaced in April’s mind: Star’s laughter during training, the way she protected her without ever suffocating her; and Aria’s determination, her firmness and the calm she could transmit during the hardest moments.
Each memory was a luminous thread tying her to both of them, making it impossible to choose.
“What if I hurt one of them…?” she thought, guilt tightening her chest. “But maybe I can learn not to lose either of them. Maybe my heart can grow large enough to hold them both…”
Korvath let out a low, reassuring growl, as if telling her she was not alone and that even the most complex hearts could find balance.
April inhaled deeply, trying to calm her breath and let hope overcome fear.
“In Oztar, sincere love has no chains,” he said, tilting his head with a paternal tone. “Water does not choose. It flows. And you are water.”
April sighed. “So it’s not… wrong?” the girl asked.
“Wrong… is only denying what you feel,” he replied.
April breathed deeply, feeling her pulse pounding in her temples.
“And if I make a mistake?” she murmured.
Korvath lowered his head, his eyes deep like a night lake.
“Then you will learn. The heart does not make mistakes—only those who ignore it do.”
April’s hands played with broken blades of grass.
“Sometimes I’m afraid my heart… is too much. That what I feel might hurt others.”
Korvath made himself smaller, close to April’s face. His paw vibrated against the ground, releasing a bluish resonance.
“Too much? April, the heart is not a stone to be weighed. Beings of the Blue Vein are not chosen for strength, but for the ability to feel. Water follows emotion, but it does not judge it.”
Korvath crouched beside her, his warm, calm breath on April’s face.
“Every magic is born from the heart. If you learn to feel it, to guide it, it will be protection, not destruction.”
Korvath closed one eye, his tone secretive.
“You think you carry the weight of two hearts. But the truth is… you carry the weight of two worlds.”
He gestured toward the distant forest.
April lowered her gaze, overwhelmed by an inner tide.
“What… what do you mean?” she asked.
“Your heart speaks louder than you believe. Worlds listen to those who truly love.”
April took a deep breath.
“So… you think I can do it?”
“I believe you will do far more than that,” Korvath replied, his deep roar reassuring.
The bluish vibration wrapped around her like an embrace.
“Every choice you make from the truth of your heart is magic.”
A hiss ran through the forest.
An icy wind moved between the trees.
Korvath suddenly straightened.
