EPISODE 18 “THE SHADOW AND THE FOREST”

EPISODE 18 “THE SHADOW AND THE FOREST”

Mar 13, 2026

“April! Behind you!” the dragon exclaimed.

Star and Aria moved in perfect synchronization, their movements quick and precise. Blue and red runes shimmered along their staffs and blades, weaving into threads of energy that pulsed in the air like living strands of light. Every gesture was calculated: Star traced circles of protection while Aria prepared precise strikes to deflect any blow from the Dark Form.

April felt her heart hammering in her chest, her hands damp with sweat and her wrists trembling. Anxiety tightened her throat, yet alongside it flowed a deep concentration, a connection with the Blue Thread reminding her that fear could become strength. Her muscles were tense like drawn strings, every fiber of her body alert.

A freezing wind slipped between the trees, yet the leaves remained still, as if suspended in time. The forest was silent. April inhaled deeply, seeking the rhythm of the intertwined hearts within her.

The Dark Form emerged from the forest, thin like a crack in the world, bending the light around it.

“I won’t let you pass!” April shouted as blue magic pulsed chaotically beneath her skin.

Korvath leapt in front of her, wings spread like a protective wall. The Shadow’s tendrils struck him, but he countered with a breath of pure blue light, shielding April.

“No… you will not… have her!” Korvath roared.

The Shadow withdrew—silent, but not defeated.

April fell to her knees, trembling.

“K-Korvath? Are you okay?”

“Yes… but it tried to wear down your magic from the inside,” he gasped.

“It’s my fault,” April whispered.

“Don’t say that. It came for you. Now you must resist—inside and outside,” Korvath replied gravely.

In the clearing between the trees, Aria sharpened her sword while Star arranged runes on the ground. Some of the glowing lines trembled slightly.

“You’re too close to her,” Aria said without looking up.

“Me? You’re the one glued to her like a shadow!” Star snapped.

“It’s not a competition. She needs balance,” Aria replied calmly.

“When you’re not there… she trembles,” Star growled.

Aria met her gaze coldly.
“And when you’re the only one there… she loses hope.”

Silence.

Then the ground trembled.

Aria rushed toward April, lifting her as dark energy slithered around her.

“Don’t… scare me like that…” April whispered.

“I’m afraid of caring about you,” Aria admitted quietly, “but I’m even more afraid of losing you.”

Star arrived moments later, breathless.

“What happened?!”

“Star, you’re agitated. You destabilize her,” Aria replied.

April stepped between them, trembling.

“If I ask you to stay… will you stay?”

By the river, the wind suddenly shifted. Korvath spread his wings uneasily.

“Something moved beyond the protective boundary.”

Between the trees, the Dark Form slid forward like liquid shadow. A metallic, bitter smell filled the air.

Within the shifting darkness, white eyes ignited.

A distant voice echoed.

“Do not enter all at once. Dig.”

“Like a disease?” the Dark Form asked.

“Do not force it. Consume it,” the Superior answered.

Korvath lowered his head to them.

“The Shadow that has followed you for days… has entered the forest.”

Star’s eyes widened.

“That’s impossible. The runes—”

“They’re trembling,” Aria whispered. “Something is corrupting them.”

Star swallowed.

“It’s looking for her.”

Inside the tent, Aria treated April with warm infusions and crystals.

“The Shadow left an echo in your magic. You need warmth, breath… contact.”

“So… it’s my fault?” April asked.

“No. It’s the intensity with which you love.”

April closed her eyes.

“When you touch me like this… I don’t feel the cold anymore.”

“Your magic recognizes me,” Aria whispered. “Because I care about you more than is wise to admit.”

April opened her eyes in surprise.

“I said it. I can’t take it back.”

Outside, Star paced restlessly.

“She needs rest,” Aria called from inside.

“She needs me,” Star muttered.

Night fell over the camp. The protective runes around the clearing suddenly glowed a sickly red.

“No… they’re failing!” Star cried.

A crack of shadow opened between the trees like a liquid black mouth.

“I found you, little girl,” a cold voice hissed.

April staggered as magic spiraled visibly beneath her skin.

“April! Breathe!” Aria shouted.

“I can’t! It’s too strong!” April cried.

Her heart thundered, the Blue Thread raging inside her veins.

Then the clearing erupted with energy—blue and red filaments vibrating between the runes, black roots twisting like serpents beneath the earth.

Star grabbed April’s hand.

“I can see your heart! Don’t let them take it!”

Aria stood beside her.

“Breathe with us! We’re here!”

Their breaths synchronized.

April inhaled deeply.

For a moment, the magic began to calm.

A girl with violet hair appeared in the distance, watching.

“I’m not following you,” she said calmly.

“Then why are you here?” April asked.

“Because if I hadn’t come… you would have died.”

A pillar of white light erupted from the ground.

Aria rested her forehead against April’s temple.

“I’m here. With you.”

Star squeezed April’s hand tightly.

“I’m not leaving you. Never.”

Korvath roared above the runic circle.

“Fire breath! Seal!”

April’s light, Aria’s calm blue magic, and Star’s red fire merged into a single wave.

The three hearts beat together.

Then—silence.

The Shadow crack snapped shut.

April collapsed to her knees, gasping.

“I can’t… feel it anymore…”
