Justice awoke a few minutes ahead of the alarm with a raging boner. Morning wood wasn’t unusual, but given the day he’d had, he was surprised. It could have been the sexy life-and-death situation, or maybe all those hot, muscular military men. Hell, maybe it was just the whole warehouse full of dildos.

Not that he’d taken any samples for himself. Apparently, Merlin had run down to grab the arm dildos he’d used to hit the zombies “as evidence,” whatever that meant. They didn’t do investigations as such, but Merlin had apparently watched enough TV shows about working as a policeman that he felt as if he was an expert.

There were few people or things Justice wanted to think about less than he wanted to think about Merlin while he had an erection. No. He didn’t want to think about that spray of blood over his face, or the way that his hair was so wild like a Norse god’s.

Rolling onto his side, Justice shut off the alarm so it wouldn’t chime while he was trying to get off, and then he reached into the drawer.

Inside were his small collection of buttplugs and dildos. Each one had its own bittersweet memory attached. The double-ended dildo for when he and his lover Lewis had attempted to sate themselves at the same time. They had gone into the sex store as nervous as virgins and purchased the thing as quickly as they could.

They were both so nervous and excited, having seen the item in a porno. They kissed and touched each other, facing each other in front of the fireplace in the living room. Their fingers lubed, they opened one another while they kissed. Facing one another, they spread their legs, each admiring the other’s body, even if Lewis was balding a little, his shoulders drooped a little, but still, at that moment, Justice was still so in love with him, idealistic that they could work through their issues.

He lubed one end of the dildo and slowly sank it into Lewis, watching his skin grow tight and white. It was a rather large toy, which had excited both of them. It was difficult working it into him, but he finally did. He turned it slowly, hitting Lewis’s prostate until his face turned bright red and he looked as if he might blow.

Justice stopped there and then leaned back, parting his legs wide so Lewis could move the dildo into him. Lewis, however, looked furious that he had been denied his orgasm and glared for a moment before he roughly picked up the other end. He didn’t enter it into Justice with the same care, but Justice tried to focus on how good it felt to be filled, even if his hole was stinging from the rough invasion. “I wanted us to come together.”

“Yeah.” Lewis scooted closer, which forced the dildo painfully deep into Justice, who yelped and scooted back, causing it to fall out.

Lewis rolled his eyes. “Come on.”

“That hurt!” Justice exhaled his frustration. This was not going as well as it had in the porno. Maybe it just took practice. He picked the other end up and slowly worked it into himself while Lewis started jerking off.

Justice scooted forward, trying to get the dildo to the right depth, when he noticed Lewis was already grinding on it. His lover’s face was pinched and red. Lewis tugged on his balls, and before Justice could blink, Lewis was coming all over his chest.

Staring down at his lover’s flaccid cock, Justice felt defeated.

“Sorry.” Lewis didn’t look particularly sorry. He patted Justice’s shoulder. “We’ll figure it out.”

Justice sighed at the memory as he picked up a buttplug he’d bought more recently, before the zombie apocalypse but after he realized Lewis was seeing someone else. There was something perversely funny in marking his life in dildos, but he wasn’t ready to be in on the joke.

He lubed it, warming it with his hands. He heard Lewis on the other side of the wall, in the spare room where he’d been living—or not living, as he had fallen victim to whatever it was that had turned people to zombies—also since before the apocalypse. What an awkward time for Lewis to be undead. The final words hadn’t been said. Justice hadn’t moved out, but he had been looking for an apartment.

Now this.

Those thoughts were too morbid for him to get off, so Justice tried to think of something sexy. Maybe their threesome.

No. That was what led to the trouble, wasn’t it? Justice couldn’t even remember the guy they brought home. Was he blond?

Justice reached behind him, turning the buttplug’s vibrator on as he took a deep breath to relax himself. Blond? Maybe. Merlin’s face popped into his mind, but he knew it wasn’t Merlin. And he really didn’t want to think about Merlin at all.

Except that feeling of Merlin behind him when he was bent over Authority Figure’s desk, the hardness pressed against his ass. Just thinking about being taken there in front of the whole squad was enough to make him relax and take in the narrow part of the plug. Justice twisted it from the base as he thought of Merlin’s powerful hands, the ones that had so easily stopped Justice’s punches, grabbing Justice by the hips and yanking his pants down.

His cock had felt big, and he wouldn’t lose his erection or complain he wouldn’t get his due. No, Merlin would just slam right into him, no preparation because he wouldn’t be able to wait to get inside Justice.

The plug drove home, and the vibrator hummed against his prostate. Justice rolled onto his back and rubbed the base of the plug against the mattress so he could get it angled just so. Merlin. No, he didn’t want to think about him. He wanted to think about any one of the many military guys there, barking orders, asking Merlin questions that he wouldn’t answer.

Justice grabbed his cock and pulled, reveling in the pleasure of getting off and doing it himself. It was lonely being in a “sort of” relationship with an undead man, but getting himself off felt powerful, like an act of rebellion. He missed Lewis, but he didn’t need him.

He pulled his cock harder, thinking about nothing but the feeling of his fingers, the buzz of the vibrator. He pictured it deep inside him, pushing his thick muscles apart just to reach that one, sweet spot inside where the plug buzzed and tickled his prostate.

His legs tensed as he arched off the bed, hips forcing him into mad thrusts into his hand as he broke out in a sweat. His balls tightened up against his body, and Justice thought of nothing but the sweet euphoria of his release, searching, dreaming of it until finally a shudder coursed through his body.

He opened his eyes and stared at the white ceiling as he breathed heavily, pulses of cum leaving him warm and jolting until finally his body was left relaxed, warm and sated on the bed.

Justice panted as he closed his eyes. The plug continued to vibrate, and it felt good, calming. He wanted to enjoy the blissful moment of peace for as long as he could, but thoughts quickly came rushing back, particularly in regard to the day before.

Reaching back, Justice turned the vibrator on the plug off, then worked it back out of him. Now that he wasn’t filled, reality was impossible to ignore.

He ached all over. Being dangled from the side of a building apparently wore out his muscles. His arm felt stretched, shoulder dislocated.

The night before, the helicopter had landed on the roof of the building with the sole purpose of airlifting Justice and Merlin out before armed soldiers stormed the building from where the ZoCOS officers had initially arrived. Supposedly the woman was rescued from the Hummer, but Justice hadn’t gotten a clear story on what had become of her.

Justice had been awake most of the night, mulling over what had happened. He’d been in many tight scrapes before, even lost partners. Never had the military shown up to get his ass out. If it had been just him and some guy other than smart-ass Merlin, he was pretty sure he’d have to strategically shoot zombies down, or just wait until they got bored and toddled off. Maybe if a couple of days had passed, a ZoCOS squad might’ve come out for him. Maybe.

He drew his legs up, folding himself in half to roll, trying to stretch out his tense back muscles. Justice picked up his plug and headed to the shower to clean it and himself off.

Merlin was a strange character; the military’s interest in him didn’t sit well with Justice. In Merlin’s defense, he looked surprised to be getting assistance. So it wasn’t as if he had a panic button to press for an airlift. If anything, Merlin had withdrawn, suddenly answering the military’s answers to his questions with obtuseness and brevity. The most he had said without prompting was when he asked after the woman and what would be happen to Justice’s Hummer. At least someone cared about that.

Justice bent over to start the water, then shimmed out of his boxers. The Hummer, Justice was told, would make it back to his apartment just as soon as they’d checked it thoroughly for “contaminants.”

Whatever that meant.

As if that wasn’t enough to worry about, there was the matter of how Merlin managed to pull Justice up from the side of the building. As Justice let the warm water of the shower drizzle onto his face, he thought about the strange look on Merlin’s face as he held Justice’s arms on the side of the building. His plump lips mouthed something indecipherable. Then there was a light feeling in Justice’s stomach, the sudden surge of power, as if he could fly. Just as suddenly, Justice was jerked back from weightlessness as soon as Merlin stopped chanting.

One thing Justice learned since the start of this entire crazy zombie epidemic was that there was some seriously weird shit in the world. Much of it never added up. No one knew what triggered these events. Bioterrorism? Nature taking revenge?

He should probably just be happy to be alive and not worry too much. Yet…

Justice scrubbed down and then toweled off before heading into the kitchen for coffee and to nuke a mini sausage biscuit. He still had a million questions, but none of them could be answered in his apartment. No, he needed to get to work, hope that Merlin hadn’t decided to quit the job. After a first day like that, Justice wouldn’t blame him if he had.

Merlin hadn’t seemed able to catch his breath after pulling Justice over the edge. His whole demeanor had changed, no more witty retorts, just simple yes and no answers. At the time, Merlin had looked exhausted but not defeated. When the soldiers with their buzz cuts and fatigues weren’t looking at him, Merlin sized them up, did something strange with his eyebrows, his lips flat as if he was concentrating intensely.

It reminded him of that movie Scanners, where people could concentrate on an adversary’s head long enough to make it explode. He didn’t know why he’d gotten the feeling, but he had the sense that if Merlin could’ve, he would’ve made some heads burst.

After finishing a sausage biscuit and black coffee, Justice pulled on his ubiquitous jeans and T-shirt and decided to test the idea that his Hummer would be parked out front. If it wasn’t, he’d have to figure out another way to get to work. Even the few blocks it would take to walk to work weren’t safe anymore. And it wasn’t just the zombies either. In fact, they were the least scary being that Justice could run into. It was the living, looting strangers that had gotten really dangerous.

Fortunately, the Hummer was in its assigned place in the parking garage. The vehicle appeared to have been detailed, shined with the sort of wax job it had had when Justice could spend time seeing to his Hummer the way he preferred. Simpler times. Back to when Lewis was not undead and they’d ride out to the country together.

Back then, Lewis had been the breadwinner. On his own, Justice would not have been able to afford a Hummer. Nor would he even dream of luxurious vacations in exotic locales. The condo he was living in would’ve been too pricey on his income, yet he was still there. Since he was a member of ZoCOS, the mortgage had been suspended for the time being. The rationale was that he was too busy to find somewhere else to live, which was true. He wasn’t sure how long that would continue to be true, though. Strangely, as far as Justice knew, Lewis was the only zombie in the entirety of the complex. Though no one understood the pattern of the afflicted, he’d heard people in the complex whispering that maybe Lewis got what he deserved since he was a defense attorney who got some high-profile scumbags put back on the street.

Even if the cop part of Justice felt as if that was just deserts, seeing what Lewis had become, he didn’t think being a mindless zombie was something anyone deserved. There was justice served and then there was vengeance. Now Lewis was locked in the spare bedroom, where he spent his days alone, unable to do much of anything but groan. He was barred from the law offices. Locking him up was the only way Justice had of keeping him from attempting to file legal briefs. While Lewis wasn’t officially Justice’s responsibility, he was the only one available to look after him. His hope was that maybe someday Lewis would come back to life. Then they could either fix things or not. Either way, Justice was determined to see the relationship, such as it was, through.

Justice sighed as he opened the Hummer to peer inside.

He squinted at the black leather interior, letting his eyes adjust. His shotgun was cleaned, as was the ax. There was a small case of fresh shells still wrapped in plastic right next to it. Good of their mysterious benefactors to be thoughtful, but it was weird to think of strangers meticulously cleaning his personal items.

After starting the Hummer, he pulled out with a squeal of his tires and sped to the offices.

After several of his partners succumb to unfortunate deaths, Justice figures he'll go it alone...until he's assigned a mysterious and sexy new partner, Merlin Pride, who seems to know more about the zombies' origins than he's letting on.

Merlin also seems to sense that Justice needs a good snogging, but it's complicated: Justice still lives with his undead ex-boyfriend. Can Justice make peace with his past? And if he does, should he take a chance on a man who may have something to do with destroying civilization as they knew it?
