Vernon Daniels Vs. The Ghosts of Morning View High School

Scary Boo Town?

Scary Boo Town?

May 04, 2026

“You guys ready?” Carly asked.

“Yep,” Larry said as he put both of our dishes in the sink.

“Good,” Carly said. We all got into the car with Carly in the driver’s seat, she started to drive.

“Wait, why is she driving?” Marshall asked.

“Do you have a driver’s license?” Carly asked, “Because I do.”

“How?” Marshall asked.

“I got it on my 17th birthday, like usual,” Carly said, “Don’t tell me that you forgot that I was held back in 2nd grade?”

“But aren’t you like the second in our grade?” Marshall asked. Carly chuckled.

“Who told you a lie like that?” Carly asked, “I’m not even in the top 50 of our grade.”

“The whole football team,” Marshall said.

“Wow, what great friends,” Larry whispered to me.

“If they weren’t non-magical, I could probably show them why it’s stupid to lie,” Carly muttered under her breath.

“Excuse me?” Marshall asked.

“They are your teammates,” Carly said, “But that’s a weird thing to lie about.”

“I know that they’re mostly liars who want to make themselves look good,” Marshall said, “But I think they really believed that you were smart enough to be second in our grade. Heck, I did too. You’re smart and pretty. If I wasn’t stupid enough to believe them, I probably would’ve gotten your affection in a better way. I’m just barely passing most of my classes at the moment, so I had hoped that you would help me study. So, I guess it was more of a hope than me blindly believing them.”

“Carly, please tell me that you didn’t,” Larry said.

“Didn’t what?” Carly asked.

“She has truth powers?” I whispered.

“Yes,” Larry whispered back.

“Is it going to affect us?” I asked.

“Yes,” Larry said.

“What’s going on?” Marshall asked.

“Sorry, my pheromones make you tell the truth when I’m upset,” Carly said, “It’ll go away.”

“Oh, yeah,” Marshall said, “You’re also magical, that’s one of the reasons I was attracted to you.”

“Wait, what do you mean by also?” Carly asked.

“My family can use telekinesis,” Marshall said, “Mine unfortunately is limited at the moment to lighter objects, so I can’t move anything heavier than 3 or 4 pounds yet.”

“I’m a fire mage,” Carly said, “With truth serum pheromones, and I can see and communicate with ghosts.”

“I can turn into a giant Labradoodle puppy,” I said, “And I have other powers, but can only use them when I’m in dog form.”

“I’m a tamer,” Larry said, “I accidentally tamed my boyfriend, but I have pheromones that bring my loved ones closer to me.”

“Excuse me?” Marshall asked, “You turn into a dog and your boyfriend tamed you? Did I hear you right?”

“Yep,” I said.

“How does that even happen?” Marshall asked.

“I’m half Spirit Wolf and half Astral Mage,” I said, “Somehow that makes me a dog, but idk. And Spirit Wolves can be tamed according to a North Family ancestor.”

“Wait, isn’t a dog just a domesticated wolf?” Marshall asked.

“Yep,” I said.

“We’re here,” Carly said.

“I hope the chainsaw man isn’t here yet,” Larry said, as we got out of the car, “He chases people and most of our group last year ended up getting lost. It took the adults two hours to find everyone.” We got in line to pay for and show our tickets. The line was super long.

“It was a group of 16 teenagers and 4 adults,” Carly said, “What did they expect?”

“You two know 14 other people our age?” Marshall asked.

“It was a family group,” Larry said, “And can you stop dissing us?”

“I guess old habits die hard,” Marshall said.

“Marshall, I don’t think we have to stay with those two the whole time,” Carly said, “And Vernon needs a ticket. Do you want to ditch them now?”

“But wouldn’t your parents get mad, Carly?” Marshall asked. “Larry is your little brother.”

“Yeah, my little brother who you used to pick on to get my attention,” Carly said, “I want to get to know you when Larry isn’t a part of the picture, got it? Or else I won’t find any reason to continue dating you.”

“Yeesh, I got it,” Marshall said, “Don’t tell me twice.” Carly dragged Marshall to a different line.

“She’s a great big sister when we’re not fighting,” Larry said, “But she’s awful when we are.”

“I don’t have any siblings,” I said, “So, I don’t know.”

“True,” Larry said, “Do you know if your life expectancy changes if you are not a full-blooded Wolf Spirit?”

“There wasn’t enough information about it,” I said, “I’d have to ask my Dad, and you know he won’t want to tell me.”

“He sure is barging in on your life after not being around for a long time, huh?” Larry asked.

“But I can’t bring myself to hate him,” I said, “I’m just slightly annoyed if anything.”

“So, what do you think of Scary Boo Town?” Larry asked.

“What?” I asked.

“Morning View, what do you think of it?” Larry asked.

“It’s interesting,” I said, “I didn’t think that there would be a place like this.”

“Well, I got to admit that sometimes we have a weird vibe,” Larry said, “But this theme park is one of the best. Except it’s not even located in the town, it’s just near it. But their Halloween Festivities are always fun.”

“I’m glad you think so,” I said.

“Halloween is the best, right?” Larry asked.

“Yes,” I said. Soon, we got to the front of the line and Larry did pay for my ticket. Then, we got in and I saw what Larry was talking about.

“So, do you want to try out a roller coaster first?” Larry asked.

“I guess,” I said.

“We’ll go on a mild rollercoaster then,” Larry said, “The yellow one is always a good start.”

“Yellow?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Larry said, “Each rollercoaster here has a color that is associated with it. It’s typically a theme, but this park’s theme is just different colors.”

“Oh, okay,” I said. Larry brought me over to the yellow rollercoaster and we got in line. I quickly found out that I loved rollercoasters.

“See, isn’t this fun?” Larry asked.

“Yeah,” I said.

Fast-forward to the meetup time, and we went on every rollercoaster there. Carly and Marshall looked happy too.

“So, you two ready to go?” Carly asked, “We’ll get dinner at the chicken place nearby and head home. I can drop Marshall and Vernon off afterwards, because I know Vernon has stuff at our house and I want some time with Marshall in my room.”

“I think we’re ready,” I said.

“You want alone time with your boyfriend at home, huh?” Larry asked.

“I’m not going to be stupid like you and your boyfriend, Larry,” Carly said.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Larry asked.

“Larry, please don’t,” I said.

“Now I’m curious,” Marshall said.

“I don’t want to embarrass them any further,” Carly said. “Let’s just go.” Somehow that kept everyone quiet as we got into Carly’s car and she drove us to the chicken place. The restaurant was actually called “The Chicken Place”.

“When you said chicken place, I thought you meant a fast-food chain that sold chicken,”  Marshall said, “Not an actual restaurant called that.”

“We always go here for a meal after going to the theme park,” Carly said, “The owners are relatives, our Mom’s first cousin and his wife. In fact, 4 of the sixteen teenagers that we went with and got lost with are the children of the owners.”

“Why is it called that?” I asked.

“Because it was named by a four-year-old,” Larry said with a laugh.

“What?” Marshall asked.

“Hello, my name is Nancy,” a girl who looked like she was related to Carly and Larry said when she approached our table, “Oh, hey, it’s Carly and Larry. It’s been a while. You two brought… Dates? That’s unusual. Where are Cassie and Tim?”

“Our parents are away for a few days,” Carly said, “I already told them that we’d be visiting the theme park and then coming here.”

“Oh, then Mom and Dad would already know that you were coming,” Nancy said, “Did you want to introduce me to your dates or is it a no?”

“I don’t see why not,” Larry said, “This handsome guy next to me is my boyfriend Vernon Daniels, and that over there is Marshall Lambert.”

“Oh,” Nancy said.

“Sorry, Nancy,” Carly said, “Larry and Marshall have some hard feelings. Don’t mind that.”

“I’ll try not to,” Nancy said, “Do you want me to bring out everyone to see you? The restaurant is mostly empty anyways.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Larry said, “But maybe if they’re in shifts? I know Casey is probably cooking now, so we’ll meet him last.”

“Okay,” Nancy said, “But I should probably get your drink order in first.”

“I want a cola,” Larry said.

“Lemonade for me,” Carly said.

“Iced tea?” Marshall said in a questioning tone.

“Sweet or unsweetened?” Nancy asked.

“Sweet,” Marshall said.

“Water with lemon,” I said.

“Okay,” Nancy said, “I’ll have my siblings bring your drinks when they come out. I’ll get your food order in a bit.” Nancy left. A minute or so later, a group of three teenagers came over to the table, each of them looking vaguely related to Nancy with a glass in their hands, except for one who held two glasses. The group of three seemed to be a pair of identical boy twins and a girl.

“I’m Henry, this is Harry,” one of the boy twins said, pointing to his identical twin. “Harry doesn’t talk.”

“I’m Stacey,” the girl said, “Say, are you two really dating our cousins?”

“Yes, I really like Carly,” Marshall said.

“Larry and I are practically married at this point,” I joked.

“Excuse me?” Carly asked.

“I tamed him and also somehow we’re also mates now,” Larry said, “Like soulmates or something, but he’s part Wolf Spirit.”

“You’re both idiots,” Carly said.

“Sounds like something Larry would do without even thinking about it,” Henry said.

“Definitely,” Stacey said. Harry nodded.

“Why doesn’t Harry talk?” Marshall asked.

“We’re not really sure,” Stacey said, “But he hasn’t said anything ever.”

“No, Stacey,” Henry said, “Harry’s ability is broken. When he says something everyone in the area, except for me as I’m his twin, can’t recall anything for the past 24 hours.”

“Oh, that’s a huge problem,” Larry said.

“Yeah,” Henry said, “But Harry’s not much of a talker anyway.”

“That’s definitely a broken ability,” Marshall said, “What about the rest of you?”

“I’m also a fire mage,” Stacey said, “Like Carly, Cassie, and Dad.”

“I’m a time mage like Mom,” Henry said, “So, I can rewind time to combat Harry’s powers, but things don’t always go exactly as they did the first time around.”

“Like how?” I asked.

“Well, Stacey didn’t exist the first time around,” Henry said.

“Isn’t she only two years younger than you and Harry?” Carly asked.

“Yes, but it was before I could control my powers,” Henry said, “I accidentally went back twelve years and unfortunately, I remember every timeline.”

“Wait, you made me exist?” Stacey asked.

“I forgot that you still haven’t remembered since last time Harry talked,” Henry said, “And obviously, I didn’t do anything except go back in time.”

“Hey, you three,” Nancy said as she came back, “Why don’t you go back to work? You know Mom’s not going to like it if you just stand around talking again.”

“Okay, fine,” Stacey said. The three of them left in different directions.

“So, have you figured out what you want to eat?” Nancy asked.

“Chicken,” Marshall said.

“We’re a chicken restaurant,” Nancy said, “So, please describe the meal you want.”

“Fried chicken,” Marshall said.

“I want chicken Parmesan,” Larry said.

“Sesame chicken for me,” Carly said.

“Do you have chicken sandwiches?” I asked.

“We have any chicken dish under the sun,” Nancy said, “So, yes.”

“I’ll have that then,” I said, “But can you give me two? I’m really hungry.”

“Uh… Okay,” Nancy said, “My parents will come to see you when your meals are ready. Is that okay?”

“Yeah,” Carly said. “Casey and Jessica can take their time.”

“Okay, good,” Nancy said, then she left the room.

“What are Nancy’s powers?” Marshall asked.

“She doesn’t like talking about them,” Carly said, “So, we don’t really know.”

“At least whatever she has isn’t completely broken like Harry’s,” Larry said. I looked at my phone and saw that it was 7:57 pm.

“Wait, Larry, what time was the Ghost Gala again?” I asked.

“8 pm, why?” Larry asked.

“We don’t have time to change, let alone get there,” I said, “We’ve got like 2 minutes.”

“What Ghost Gala?” Marshall asked.
