The safe opened to reveal something unexpected: gold bars, a book about stars and astronomy, a book about astrology, and a star covered veil.
“We can use this veil for our wedding,” Larry said.
“That’s the first thing you say when you see this?” I asked, “I would’ve said wow at least. I think we should take everything home. What do you think?”
“We won’t have enough room to carry them all,” Larry said.
“Then, you take the gold and I take everything else,” I said.
“Are you going to wear the veil, Vernon?” Larry asked.
“Sure,” I said, “Can you put it on me?” Larry smiled and put the veil on my head. He then gave me the books and took the gold bars.
"We're going to be so rich!" Larry said, "I just hope that the stuff can really come with us when we leave."
"You both know that you will be teleported away, right?" Daisy asked, I could tell it was her because she seemed to be dripping.
"That sounds annoying," Larry said, "But I think it'll be better since we're going back to a place with food. I'm starving."
"We're at the high school," Daisy said, "The kitchen is in the same place, so I don't think the living humans would mind as much, as long as you only take from the ingredients that are marked 'for unforseen circumstances' that are usually left around just in case a student or faculty member gets teleported away during lunch time by the ghosts. They regularly restock that one to make sure that nobody is eating rotten or expired food, but they don't mind anyone taking some. I've seen people break in and eat some of that stuff sometimes."
"That's rather convenient," I said.
"Why isn't that more well known?" Larry asked.
"Because the ghosts here..." Daisy started, but then chuckled, "See, I forgot that I was a ghost. But the ghost who live here don't like admitting that they have a problem."
"Is it only certain ones that do that?" Larry asked.
"Yeah," Daisy said, "For some reason only women ghosts can do it, but even then not all of them can. I think the ones who can do it are girls under the age of 20 who are unmarried and have no children."
"Do any of the other ghosts have powers?" I asked.
"I think so," Daisy said, "Divina can make binding contracts, which is why she's the figurehead of the ghosts. The 3 most important ghosts to remember are Eloise, Divina, and Isaiah. Those three are the ones who are for the most part in charge. Liliya on the other hand is in charge where the other three aren't."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Larry asked.
"Liliya is the first ghost to roam these halls," Daisy said, "The first actual ghost might be the one that lives in the underground area where the lake is found. I'm not very fond of him, as we got in a squabble once and he hasn't been allowed back to the Ghost Gala since."
"What's his name?" Larry asked.
"He doesn't have one," Daisy said, "He either: 1) forgot, 2) ran away from his parents before he could learn it, or #3) got abandoned and abandoned his name too. Nobody really knows with him, but he does have a nasty personality."
"What do you call him?" Larry asked.
"The one by the lake," Daisy said.
"What kind of powers do you have?" I asked.
"Funnily enough..." Daisy said, "I was a Mage with an affinity for water magic, but I also can see ghosts. My childhood was a bit troubled as I was the product of an affair, so the Ghosts here were my only friends for a long time. I used to run away a lot and since the school is close enough to home, but far enough that my Mother or anyone else wouldn't think to look for me here, I always came here. I think I stumbled upon the Ghosts here when I was about 7 and befriended them, though it took me 10 years to be invivted to a Ghost Gala. I can't believe that they decided to have you join them so quickly, but Cordelia does make some pretty weird requests... I think she once asked me to bring her a toy poodle when I was still alive because she thought it was a doll and not a dog breed and didn't believe me unless I showed her one."
"So, she's been doing this for a while?" I asked.
"Yeah," Daisy said, "But only if you ditch class. She's a big fan of school, so she finds it weird if someone wants to ditch class and takes it out on them by making them show her something she had been thinking of in the moment. You guys are lucky that she only asked for a rabbit with the rabbit hutch so close. I once had to go find directions and supplies to build a bench as she wanted me to let her watch me build a bench from scratch one time."
