Episode II — The Sah’s Pyramid
Chapter 4: Aethryon’s Return
Gebmar slowly opens his eyes. “Are we out?” He jumps cheerfully as he shifts back to his elemental form, his flaming head sparkling with joy. “Hell yeah! I can use my powers again!”
Ember falls to her knees and slowly melts into herself as she lets out a long sigh of relief. “I thought we would never get out of that crazy place.”
“Ah, guys . . . how do I get rid of these things and the alien appearance?” Michael inquires, touching the Aethryon’s Crown floating over his head. “I can’t show up like this!”
“Yeah, what’s going on with Mike? You swore you would tell us everything once we were out.” Ember stands up, facing Gebmar defiantly.
“Where do I even begin . . .” Gebmar asks, wringing his four hands.
“Begin what?”
Everyone freezes at the sound of Nyx’s voice and turn around to see her approaching, Rickiemer and Rigel lying unconscious on the ground behind her after what looks like a severe beating.
“Gebmar, do you have any idea how much trouble . . .” Nyx comes to a stop when she sees Michael’s new form. “Aethryon? Wait . . . Mike?”
She turns to Gebmar.
The Earth Deva releases a long, frustrated sigh before speaking. “Aethryon has been reborn, but as a human with no memories of his past.”
“What?! The Transcendental Light and guardian of Chaos’s Key is now a mere mortal?” Nyx’s voice echoes with frustration. “Aethryon, just when we need you the most, you are reborn as a human. Is it true you don’t remember a thing?”
Michael meets her intimidating gaze but is unable to form a coherent response. Just then, Ember steps in.
“Can you stop screaming?!” Ember’s voice rises in defense of her brother. “Who is this ‘Aethryon’? Why are you all calling Mike by that name? Gebmar, you promised you would tell us everything.”
As Gebmar prepares to speak, Nyx interrupts.
“Aethryon . . . Michael, and human sister. I apologize for this, but it’s better if you don’t remember any of it!” With a wave of her hand, Nyx releases a sparkling powder that induces drowsiness in the siblings.
Rickiemer regains consciousness just in time to witness Michael reverting to his original human form, while the Aethryon’s Crown floating above his head slowly vanishes into thin air.
“As long as Aethryon’s memories are dormant, Michael will stay in his current form. For his safety, let’s keep it that way,” says Nyx with a sigh of annoyance. “We are not ready for an Aethryon return. Not like this!”
“So, what shall we do? We can’t hide the truth from him forever, can we?” asks Gebmar.
“Let’s save this conversation for later. Pick up the pyramid so there’s no evidence of what happened,” Nyx instructs. She seizes Gebmar’s Axis Mundi dagger and inputs the coordinates of the Archmage Mansion by pressing the gems embedded in the hilt. The stones flare with a glow at her touch as Nyx slices through the fabric of reality, opening a portal back to the ballroom.
With one hand, Gebmar retrieves the Sah’s Pyramid, and with the other two, he lifts Michael and Ember, carrying them through the portal. Rickiemer, still feigning unconsciousness, observes their departure.
