Chapter 7 - You were never alone

Chapter 7 - You were never alone

Mar 20, 2026

The door wasn’t broken.
It was unlocked.
Waiting.
She froze.
Because she never forgets to lock it.

Which meant—
Someone else had opened it.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Her heartbeat didn’t race.
It focused.
She pushed the door open.
The lights were on.
But it wasn’t the light that felt wrong.
It was the silence.
Not empty.
Occupied.
And then—
She saw him.
Arjun Malhotra.
Standing near the window.
Like time hadn’t passed.
Like those two months were irrelevant.
Unmoved.
Unchanged.
Untouched.
Ridhi didn’t step forward.
Didn’t speak.
For two months—
He had only existed in controlled memories.
But this—
Was real.
And reality pressed.
Arjun turned.
Their eyes met.
Something flickered.
Not warmth.
Not anger.
Recognition.
As if—
She was expected.
As if—
She was late.
“Did you forget me?”
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
“No.”
Too fast.
Too certain.
A second passed.
Arjun stepped closer.
Measured.
Controlled.
“You look surprised.”
“I didn’t expect you.”
A pause.
“Clearly.”
Soft word.
Sharp impact.
Silence stretched.
But this time—
It wasn’t neutral.
It watched.
“You disappeared.”
The words slipped out.
“I had work.”
Two words.
Flat.
Final.
Like she didn’t deserve more.
That was enough.
“Get your things.”
Ridhi blinked.
“What?”
“We’re leaving.”
No urgency.
No explanation.
Just decision.
“Where?”
He picked up his coat.
“Home.”
The word didn’t settle.
“This is my home.”
For the first time—
He looked at her.
Fully.
“No.”
A second passed.
“This is where you were kept.”
Something shifted.
Not fear.
Recognition.
Because it didn’t sound like opinion.
It sounded like fact.
“Five minutes.”
Not a request.
A line.
Ridhi didn’t move.
Something felt wrong.
And then—
It clicked.
This wasn’t control.
This was timing.
And she was already late.

The drive was silent.
But not empty.
His presence filled everything.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
The city faded.
Lights blurred.
Until there was only—
Road.
Direction.
And a quiet realization—
She wasn’t choosing this.
She was being taken.

The gates opened before they reached them.
No guards.
No questions.
Permission—
Already given.
Ridhi stepped out.
The place wasn’t just big.
It was designed.
Controlled.
Intentional.
The mansion didn’t welcome.
It observed.
She stepped inside.
And felt it instantly.
That presence.
Stronger.
Not seen.
But known.
She was being watched.
Not by people.
By something built into the place.
Arjun walked ahead.
Like it belonged to him.
Like she didn’t.
“This is where you live?”
“Yes.”
Nothing more.
Because explanation wasn’t needed.
The place explained everything.
Perfect.
Precise.
And empty.
Like warmth wasn’t allowed.

They stopped.
“Why am I here?”
He didn’t look away.
His gaze held hers.
Longer.
Deeper.
And then—
“Because keeping you away was a mistake.”
The words landed.
Not emotional.
Calculated.
Ridhi’s breath caught.
“What does that mean?”
He stepped closer.
Enough.
“You’re safer here.”
Safer.
The word felt wrong.
“From what?”
Silence.
For the first time—
He didn’t answer.
Not because he couldn’t.
Because he chose not to.
That silence—
Said more than truth.

“You weren’t brought here to hide…”
A second passed.
“…you were brought here to be seen.”

Somewhere—
Her name was already moving.
Not spoken.
Tracked.
And inside this place—
She wasn’t protected.
She was positioned.

Right where someone needed her.

Did Arjun bring her here to protect her…
or to make sure she couldn’t escape what’s coming?

Because think carefully—
He didn’t warn her.
He didn’t explain anything.
He didn’t even ask if she was ready.
He just came back…
Unlocked her door…
And took her.
That’s not protection.
That’s control.
And here’s what makes it worse—
He said she was “safer” with him.
Not safe.
Safer.
Which means—
There is danger.
And he knows exactly what it is.
So ask yourself—
If he really wanted to protect her…
Why didn’t he keep her away?
Why bring her closer?
Closer to him.
Closer to this world.
Closer to whatever is already watching her.
Unless—
That’s exactly where she was always meant to be.
A second passed.
And suddenly—
This doesn’t feel like a rescue anymore.
It feels like placement.
