Kagane carries the girl back to their room. Yuzu has been still and quiet ever since she picked her up. Kagane assumed she’d fidget a bit, but perhaps the session they had earlier relaxed her. Either way, she’s not done with her yet.
“I’m taking a shower first,” she assumes the girl needs more time to process. “You go in after me. I’ll be waiting for you.”
Kagane places Yuzu on her own bed and stops abruptly. She’s asleep.
Kagane expected her to sit upright, but instead her body sprawls awkwardly across her mattress. Her consciousness long gone. Peaceful despite the uncomfortable position. A little disappointed, Kagane places the girl’s head on the pillow and places the covers over her shoulders.
The sight of Yuzu, in her bed, surrounded by all her plushies, fits too well. It’s like a poster she would’ve purchased from an artist’s con, but real. Regardless, Kagane lets her sleep. She’s never had the heart to wake the cute girl from slumber, anyway.
A few hours later, Kagane sits under the covers, laptop over her lap.
She works on the final few paragraphs of her blog before she attends her next schedule, an afternoon radio show. The rustling of the covers and the appearance of a cute, sleepy Yuzu pull her attention away from the screen.
She looks at Kagane with urgent eyes, a little panicked, but nothing intense.
“Lay back down,” Kagane resumes her typing, “You need rest, and I’m leaving in an hour anyway. We’ll finish later.”
Without protest, Yuzu tucks herself back in. Kagane can feel the girl slowly cozy up to her side. Every movement tentative, as if she’s afraid to wake a sleeping giant. Once she’s settled, a comfortable silence fills the air, but not for long.
“Kagane?”
“Yes?”
“I like you.”
After all this time, and all the flirting Yuzu’s done, she’s never given her a proper confession till now. So silly. What’s the point? Even more humorous, the girl seemed to be waiting for an answer. Was the make out session they had earlier too hard to believe?
Still, Kagane humors her.
“I like you too, Yuzu,” she ruffles her hair softly, “I like you a lot, actually.”
“Really?”
“Of course,” Kagane answers, “How could I not with that big heart of yours. Everyone here has a soft spot for you, staff included. It’s frustrating you’d believe I wouldn’t feel the same after all the flirting you’ve done.”
She watches Yuzu’s expression when she says. “You sell yourself short and worry over nothing.”
Yuzu’s eyes dart around for a few seconds, then look down.
“I never thought about that,” is all she says.
She snuggles into Kagane’s side and closes her eyes. Kagane doesn’t push further. The girl should rest since she’s been working so hard anyway.
Ever since that day, everyone in the company felt a shift. The cat and dog duo became an ironclad pair. Whenever Kagane enters a room, Yuzu will leap to her seat to join her and follow her wherever. And to everyone’s surprise, the irritable idol will say nothing until it’s time for them to part.
“I have somewhere to be, Yuzu. You can’t follow me anymore,” said gently, something no one expected from her. A sight they’ve eventually come to see as normal.
A fangirl and her idol. An idol and her oshi. Two girls who can’t get enough of each other.
One happy couple.
