"You are so small, meat. You smell good, too, but I won't try anything since, well, you have a cat and a dog with you. It looks like you follow all thirteen rules well," Joe said. Then his eyes shifted into a look of hunger. He lowered his voice. "Are you sure there’s just thirteen rules?"
He smiled so creepily I felt nervous and unsettled. Then he began to laugh.
"JOE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET YOUR ASS BACK TO WORK OR I WILL HAVE HUSK TAKE CARE OF YOU! REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO MY LAST PARTNER?" Penny yells from the back room with a monstrous growl.
Joe gulps. "Well, it was nice talking to you, little meat. I have work to do," he said as he ran back outside.
As Joe and Penny walk back and forth with crates, I see Bane and Husk playing with each other. It’s actually really cute. But then, I feel like something is watching me. I look back toward the gas station and see the Tall Figure looking at me. Is that Colton? I ask myself. I see Colton come from the back room; he looks over toward the gas station, smiles at the figure, and shakes his head. I look away quickly.
What the hell is going on? That Tall Figure looks like Colton—well, not entirely—and he didn't feel like a threat. I am so confused. Why did Colton smile at him?
"Okay, that’s everything," Penny said.
"Thank you, Penny and Husk. I will see you next time," Colton said.
"See you next time! Let’s go, Husk! And I hope to see you next time, Matthan... I have a feeling I will," Penny said with a smile. She pet Bane on the head and walked off. Husk ran over to me, licked my hand, and then ran off after her.
She was so nice, and Husk too. But what Joe said is still bothering me. Then, I see Colton walk over. He leans down to my ear. "Let me reward you, since you’ve been a good boy," Colton whispers in an authoritative tone.
I feel my face get hot.
"Bane, stay here," Colton said as he grabs my arm, gently pulling me up. "Come on, little mouse. It’s time I teach you something new," he said in a low tone.
