Chapter - 15 The moment controlled slipped

Chapter - 15 The moment controlled slipped

Apr 10, 2026

He didn’t react.
That was the first problem.
Because Arjun Malhotra always reacted.
The room was still moving.
Voices. Laughter. Teasing.
But none of it reached him.
Because something had already happened—
and it wasn’t over.
It was replaying.
Again.
And again.
Her hand.
The impact.
The silence after.
Not loud.
Not dramatic.
But wrong.
Too controlled.
Too… deliberate.
Arjun stood where he was, hands relaxed, posture effortless.
But his mind—
wasn’t.
It stayed locked on one thing.
Her.
Ridhi.
Standing across the room like she hadn’t just crossed a line—
but created one.
No fear.
No apology.
No second glance.
That was what didn’t make sense.
Because he had seen everything.
Hesitation.
Fear.
Submission.
Even rebellion.
But rebellion always came with consequences.
She didn’t look like she was waiting for any.
His gaze sharpened.
Why?
The question didn’t leave.
It settled.
Deep.
Uncomfortable.
Because this wasn’t about attitude.
It was about certainty.
Then her voice echoed in his head—
“Why me?”
Simple.
But wrong.
Because that wasn’t how the question was supposed to sound.
Not like a doubt.
Not like a request.
But like she already knew the answer—
and didn’t accept it.
Arjun inhaled slowly.
For the first time—
he wasn’t reading a situation.
He was trying to understand it.
And failing.
Then—
a voice cut through.
Nidhi.
Light.
Sharp.
Intentional.
His attention didn’t fully shift.
Because before the words even landed—
he saw it.
Ridhi’s fingers.
Still.
Too still.
The way her shoulders tightened—
then relaxed.
Like she chose something in that moment.
Then came the comment.
Lipstick.
A small detail.
But in this room—
nothing was small.
Arjun didn’t look at Nidhi.
Didn’t care what she said.
He watched Ridhi.
Only Ridhi.
The pause.
The realization.
The flicker in her eyes—
gone in a second.
And then—
she changed.
Not embarrassed.
Not shaken.
Sharpened.
“What kind of people are you?”
Her voice didn’t rise.
It didn’t break.
It cut.
Clean.
Direct.
The room shifted.
People noticed.
But Arjun didn’t look at them.
He watched her.
Closer now.
More carefully.
Because this wasn’t about him anymore.
And that—
was new.
She wasn’t reacting to him.
She was standing against them.
Without hesitation.
Without calculation.
And suddenly—
Arjun didn’t interrupt.
Didn’t step in.
Didn’t control it.
Because he wanted to see—
how far she would go.
And she kept going.
Every word measured.
Every response stronger.
Not emotional.
Not defensive.
Certain.
That’s when it changed.
Inside him.
The question wasn’t why her?
It became—
What is she?
Because this wasn’t learned.
This wasn’t practiced.
This wasn’t survival.
This was instinct.
And instinct—
couldn’t be controlled.
His jaw tightened slightly.
But his eyes didn’t move.
Not even for a second.
For the first time—
something stood in front of him…
that didn’t bend.
Didn’t adjust.
Didn’t follow.
And for the first time—
he didn’t know what to do with it.
A faint smirk appeared.
Slow.
Unintentional.
Dangerous.
“You don’t follow rules…” he murmured under his breath.
A pause.
Barely audible.
“…that makes you a problem.”

The door shut.
Too hard.
Nandita didn’t realize she was holding her breath—
until it left her all at once.
The silence inside the restroom felt wrong.
Heavy.
Like something had followed her in.
She looked up.
Her reflection stared back.
Perfect.
Composed.
Unbothered.
A lie.
Her fingers gripped the sink.
Tighter.
“...how?” she whispered.
The word cracked.
Not loud.
But enough.
Because she knew him.
Better than anyone.
She had earned that place.
Fought for it.
Stayed for it.
Years.
Of silence.
Of loyalty.
Of never asking questions.
If he needed something—
it was done.
Before he even finished speaking.
And yet—
he never looked at her like that.
Her breath hitched.
Just slightly.
Not like today.
Not like he looked at Ridhi.
No.
That wasn’t possible.
“This didn’t happen,” she said quickly.
Too quickly.
But her mind didn’t agree.
Because it had already seen everything.
The way he didn’t interrupt.
Didn’t stop it.
Didn’t correct her.
The way he watched.
That was enough.
Her grip tightened.
Knuckles turning pale.
Because now—
this wasn’t about him.
It was about her.
Where did she stand now?
After everything she had given?
Everything she had been?
Her reflection didn’t answer.
It just stared.
Cold.
Distant.
Unfamiliar.
And for the first time—
Nandita felt something slip.
Not anger.
Not jealousy.
Control.
Her breathing steadied.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Her fingers relaxed.
Just a little.
“This ends here.”
This time—
it wasn’t emotion.
It was a decision.

They didn’t notice.
That was the best part.
The silence.
The tension.
The cracks forming—
right in front of them.
A soft chuckle echoed in the dark.
Low.
Controlled.
“They’re doing it themselves…”
No rush.
No interference.
Because this—
was better.
“I expected resistance…”
A pause.
“But this?”
Another chuckle.
“This is collapse.”
Arjun.
Ridhi.
Nandita.
Three different directions.
One breaking point.
Emotions rising where they shouldn’t.
Attachments forming where they’re dangerous.
Perfect.
“I don’t even have to move anymore.”
The voice softened.
Colder now.
Sharper.
“I just have to watch.”
A pause.
Longer this time.
“And choose the right moment…”
Silence.
“…to destroy it.”

Because in that room—
control didn’t shift.
It slipped.
Quietly.
Irreversibly.
And none of them realized—
they weren’t the ones holding it anymore.

Who is more dangerous right now — the one who lost control… or the one pretending they didn’t?
