"Thankfully, Iris’ and Apollo’s light and truth things go together so your powers shouldn’t be too dimmed like others whom are like you. Though I don’t think Camp Half-blood has many others like you. It’s mainly where we went so it’s where we feel like it’s safest to go, cause we know.” My mom continued.
Then my dad chuckled“At least you didn’t accidentally turn invisible for a school photo like I did. Oh boy… they called it a camera malfunction. And your mom turned her childhood bedroom into a disco ball with glitter because of a sneeze. You caused a power outage. That one is a lot easier to explain when it comes to the mortal world making up a human explanation. That has to make sense.”
It made me chuckled too and I nodded.
The rest of the drive was quiet aside from dad’s CD’s… which some of them were skipping so he had to throw them away at our gas station stop, just about an hour before we were to arrive at Camp Half-blood. Because I needed to use the restroom after accidentally drinking the rest of my water from my water bottle and also needed to refill it.
After our stop my mom continued driving. But she started driving really scarily. Like… really fast, making a lot of moves around cars to get ahead. I hatted it when my parents did they eye contact thing of understanding. And of course that led to me getting worried. I looked out the back window of the car and saw it. Someone else driving erotically and following us. I made sure to stay buckled and just held the ‘Oh Shit Bar’ above my door to try and not get car-sick. I hatted it when she started driving like this. It scared me. But what was even scarier was the images in my head of what if they caught up… what monster would be in it.
But the scariest thing was what happened after we made the turn off the interstate. Time felt fast… well mom was spreading so yeah it’d take less time but still. I though in situations like this time was meant to feel slow!
We made the turn, nearly at the camp from what I could tell. The car wa still following us and thats when mom’s spreading was out down fall. She went too fast on a turn and the car flipped over. We crashed, and my water bottle hit my head. It being metal didn’t help, even if it helps keep the ice from melting as fast keeping my water cold, cause it caused me to pass out and probably have a concussion. Thankfully I wasn’t out for that long. Only a few minutes. And when I looked at the front seats my mom was impaled with a tree branch, it went straight through her seat her eyes were glossed over. As if she was actually dead. She wasn’t dead. She couldn’t be. I was sitting behind the passenger seat though, dad’s seat, and dad wasn’t in his seat. So where was dad. Mom was… she couldn’t be dead could she? I tried to unbuckle but it was stuck. It wasn’t working. I couldn’t get out normally so I chose to slide under it, it was a bit difficult because it kept getting smaller as I moved but I eventually got out of my seat.
“Mom.” I climbed into the passenger seat and called out to her.
She didn’t move. She wasn’t breaking. Her heart wasn’t beating.
“Mom! Mom…” I began to cry… I wanted my mom… I wanted to hold me and hug me and tell me everything would be alright.
