Act 3: Path of the Stars - Chapter 3 (II)
In the end, despite Tsubari's thorough investigation, they were left with more questions than answers. They still had no idea what the faceless creature in Kyusaku's dream was, and the analysis of the books and corpses in the monastery was simply puzzling.
The books that weren't protected by magic only contained ordinary or incomprehensible information, much like the diary they'd found. A lot of them seemed like they'd been written by delirious people.
Among those that were protected, the experts only managed to unseal a few. They contained descriptions of the ritual to access the Plane of Clarity as well as records of all the monks who passed by the monastery; those who were chosen for the ritual, those who successfully passed it, those who failed it, those who gave up and left...
Strangely enough, none of them had been marked as "success", leaving one wondering why they kept doing the rituals if it had never succeeded despite the hundreds of people who attempted it. It seems all the mummified corpses in the maze below the monastery were all failed attempts... But what were they even trying to accomplish in the first place?
The weirdest part in their findings was probably the contents of the urns. They were expecting them to contain the organs of the mummified monks, but instead, they found a strange greyish blue substance inside. It wasn't exactly liquid, its texture closer to bread dough. Even the experts were unable to identify it.
This was probably the biggest mystery the Archives had faced in their decades of existence, but for once, Kyusaku didn't want to be involved in it. Despite his curious nature, he couldn't help but have a bad feeling about all this, his instinct telling him to stay far, far away from the answers that had yet to be found.
