His secret flame

Eternal flame

Eternal flame

Apr 23, 2026

Six months laterThe rooftop terrace glowed under strings of warm white lights, the city skyline stretching out like a blanket of stars below.
A gentle breeze carried the scent of grilled food and fresh flowers. Soft music played from a speaker in the corner—Dami’s latest acoustic track, now polished and released on streaming platforms with his name proudly attached.
Alex stood near the railing, a beer in hand, watching the small gathering with a quiet smile he couldn’t seem to wipe off his face. About twenty people milled around: close friends, a few colleagues from the firm, and—most importantly—family.
Marcus and Lena were there, Lena’s hand resting protectively on her growing belly. His parents had shown up too, still adjusting but trying. His mother had hugged Dami a little too tightly when they arrived, whispering something that made Dami’s eyes shine. His father had clapped Alex on the shoulder with a gruff “Be happy, mijo,” which was as close to approval as they were going to get tonight.
Dami moved through the crowd with easy confidence, guitar slung over his shoulder. He looked good—really good. The dark circles were gone. His smile reached his eyes. The tattoos on his arms caught the light as he laughed at something one of Alex’s coworkers said.
Their eyes met across the terrace. Dami’s face lit up in that private way that still made Alex’s stomach flip, even after half a year of waking up next to him every morning. Dami excused himself and crossed the space, sliding an arm around Alex’s waist like it was the most natural thing in the world.
No hiding. No stolen glances. Just open, easy affection.
“You nervous?” Alex asked, leaning into him.
“A little,” Dami admitted, pressing a quick kiss to Alex’s temple. “But mostly excited. This song… it’s for you. For us.”
The small crowd quieted as Dami stepped up to the makeshift stage area—a cleared space near the edge with a single stool and a mic stand. Marcus gave him an encouraging nod from across the way.
It wasn’t full forgiveness yet, but it was progress—slow, steady, real. Dami adjusted the guitar and spoke into the mic, voice warm and steady.
“Thanks for coming tonight. This last year has been… a lot. I wrote a lot of sad songs about fire and regret. But this one? This one’s about what happens after the flames settle. When you realize the person who set your world on fire is also the one who makes it feel like home.”
He looked directly at Alex. The first chords rang out—rich, hopeful, layered with the same melody he’d played in the dark months ago, now transformed into something brighter. Dami sang, voice rich and intimate even in the open air:
“We started in the rain, secrets in the dark
Two hearts catching fire, terrified of the spark
But every burn taught us how to hold the light
Now I’m not afraid to love you in plain sight…”
The lyrics wove their story without shame: the stolen hours, the close calls, the jealousy, the breaking point, the slow healing. The final chorus swelled with quiet strength:
“You’re my secret flame, now burning free
No more hiding what you mean to me
Through the ashes, through the doubt and fear
You’re the one I choose, year after year
Eternal flame, lighting up my nights
Forever yours, under these city lights…”
When the last note faded, the rooftop erupted in applause. Alex’s eyes stung as he clapped hardest of all. Dami set the guitar down and crossed straight to him, pulling him into a deep, unhurried kiss right there in front of everyone.
No hesitation. No fear. Cheers and whistles rose around them. Marcus shook his head with a reluctant grin.
Alex’s mother dabbed at her eyes while his father raised his glass in a silent toast. Later, when the party had thinned and most guests had gone, Alex and Dami stood alone at the railing, the city humming below them.
Dami’s arm was around Alex’s shoulders, Alex’s hand resting on Dami’s waist. “Still burning?” Alex asked softly, echoing the question from months ago. Dami turned to him, hazel eyes warm and sure. “Forever.”
He leaned in and kissed Alex slow and deep—tender, possessive, full of promise. When they pulled apart, foreheads still touching, Dami whispered, “I talked to my dad last week. Told him everything. It didn’t go great… but I did it. Because of you.”
Alex’s heart swelled. “I’m proud of you.”
“And the firm offered me the lead on the curved-glass project,” Alex added with a small laugh. “Turns out inspiration looks good on me.”
Dami grinned. “Told you. We make each other better.”

They stayed like that for a long time, wrapped in each other under the night sky. No more secrets. No more hiding. Just two men who had walked through fire and come out stronger on the other side.
Below them, the city lights flickered like captured embers—beautiful, steady, endless. The secret flame had become their brightest light. And it would keep burning for years to come. The End.
