UNFORTUNATELY. LUCK WASN’T ON my side because, of course, the door wasn't locked. How did I know that? Well, it was easy to tell when the doorknob started turning. Not bothering to stay quiet since they knew our location, I barked at the other two.
“Barricade the door now.”
The smaller male paused, probably not really sure what he should do in this situation. Thankfully, his husband listened to me and quickly grabbed one of the chairs, shoving it underneath the doorknob. It was enough to stop the door from opening for now, but I knew from experience it wouldn't hold for long. A new, eerie voice spoke up this time.
“So rude, Ringmaster, are you really not going to let us in?”
Four different voices spoke up after the first one, each of them asking me to let them in. When I didn't respond, they started ramming the door; or at least that's what it sounds like. Chants followed each thump of something or somebody ramming against the door.
“RingMaster, ringmaster, let us in.”
I could easily get myself out of here and away from the freaks; it was those two that I was worried about. That wasn't the only thing I was worried about, though. The circus shouldn't have closed yet; there was still half an hour left. For some reason, the Nightmare Master closed the circus early this year. I guess that means Frequency wasn't wrong when he said the Nightmare Master was up to something.
I didn't bother to ask frequency if he could help us. If what he was saying was the truth, there was no reason to ask him. Usually, he would use his abilities to hack into the cameras and watch where the freaks were. Of course I didn't doubt that I could do this on my own; once again, it was the other two I was worried about. I spared them a glance as I tried to figure out what the hell I was going to do.
The shapeshifter, I guess, was still in his male form, which I was thankful for. I didn't want to look at the female and remember what they had just been doing to me, not even 10 minutes ago. Even in his male form, he was shorter than me and had multicolored hair that I couldn’t tell whether it was dyed or natural. His purple color eyes were wide with fear as he clutched his husband, flinching every time he heard a thump. His clothes, just like his gender, had changed too, and he was now wearing just jeans, a tank top, and sneakers.
I'm not exactly sure what he was wearing before, but it definitely wasn't that. Not that I'm complaining, the clothes he's wearing now will be a lot better to run in. Not only was he small, but his body was more curving and muscular even in this male form. His husband was the exact opposite of him: tall and muscular. He was even taller than me, just by a couple of inches though.
My body was leaner compared to his, though he looked like a man made to fight. Your black hair, fierce blue eyes assessing every threat stuffed into a business suit. He had told the people he was with that they had finished discussing whatever they had been discussing. I guess a business meeting would explain that suit. I just think it didn't fit him.
He met my eyes will look that told me I had to fix this. It took everything in me not to just snap. You were the one who stayed.
Instead, I said. “Look for more stuff to barricade the door with while I find the exit.”
At my words, he took a glance around, probably wondering what the hell I was talking about. To him it looked like we're in a room with only one exit, the door they were trying to break down. What most people didn't know, including the freaks, is there was a maze of hallways inside the walls. I didn't really like using the maze because, well, let's just say the things in the maze are just as bad, if not worse, than the freaks. Unfortunately, a situation like this is basically: stay here and die or go into the maze and hope you don't run into anything dangerous until you step back out.
If it was just me, I wouldn't even consider it. It's not like the Nightmare Master would let me die, so what if the freaks beat me half to death? Those two, however, let's just say they aren't the first ones that's ended up in here after the circus is closed and most of those people well I'm still finding their limbs in places. I mean, I could just leave them to fend for themselves-. Before that thought could fully pass through my mind, I was slammed against the wall with a hand wrapped around my throat.
His partner gasped, racing forward to help me. “Grant, what are you doing? Stop that.”
“He was thinking of abandoning us,” Grant spat out as his hand tightened on my throat.
“Wow, you're observant.” I stated flashing him a grin like I wasn't worried about his hand wrapped around my throat.
I mean, it wasn’t the first time someone wrapped their hand around my throat, though I guess it was the first time it wasn’t a sexual act. A lot of my customers seem to enjoy choking for some reason. I think it's because I am the only Nightmare Lord on whom they will be able to perform violent acts on.
“You were what?” His partner asked, stepping away.
I sighed. “Look, it’s nothing on you guys. It's just that I have a better chance without you. I mean, they can't even kill me because the Nightmare Master would never actually let me die. You, however, they will consider you two fair game.”
Grant bared his teeth in a smile. “How about I give them the satisfaction and kill you for them?”
“I mean, you can try. You wouldn't be the first who has,”
