A list of things that Sailor likes about Boston - #1
There's a lot to like about Boston, but my favorite has got to be "More than a feeling". A minute and a half in and the guitarist floors it with a solo that sends you straight into the stratosphere. It does the musical equivalent of twirling, and it's possible even to stop thinking while the magic holds you. When it goes "BA BA BA doooo do do do do do do wwwwoooow do do do diddly do dodo, do do diddly do do dowowowow do do ~~ " you just fly. Love that earnest mustachioed energy. Rock on!
Margin notes:
How do I put this? Your musical tastes are absolutely singular and yet painfully generic at the same time. When Rip Van Winkle's friends are playing ninepins in the Catskills, I imagine that Boston's "More Than a Feeling" would be playing in the background. In fact, with the exception of that furry-looking fellow with the Crown vintage boombox that we saw hawking tickets near Fenway, I have never heard anyone this side of the 128 extol the virtues of "More Than a Feeling", and I'm not sure that guy even realized he was in the presence of other human beings.
This isn't the point of our journalling exercise, and I think you know that. You're meant to be walking around town and observing, talking to people, asking questions. Not navel gazing and eating overpriced steak tips, then coming home to take a dump all over the page.
I refuse to believe that two people's ideas of cultural enrichment could differ so much. I'll forgive it since it's the first entry. Now you can't say that I was never nice to you.
I've checked out Boston's back catalogue for you, and a book about music transcription.
