Myths and legends

Myths and legends

Apr 27, 2026

Myths and legends hide behind a thin veil. Never revealing to the public or to others. They hide their nature and their desires better than any being can comprehend, even their own kind might not recognise them. They listen for voices and footsteps of others, never getting close but never going far. Attached to another that’s different in state, a thread binding and emotions emerging, forcing existence into being. Emotions negative and positive, strong and weak, forcing an unwilling, unknown existence, sometimes a dragon, sometimes a troll but any fictional being that manifests at random, helping their tether whether good or bad or wanting or not. Humans - the tether, ignorant of the tales that pass through the lips of anyone who listens.

No thanks to those beings and no revenge to those people that fail, all according to one so powerful, the narrator of the story you’re currently reading, forcing beings into roles they do not desire. Witness the world of one so powerless, one so weak and one that cowers. A human that knows of the world beyond but too scared to confront it. Too scared to understand the beings that follow not only him but the world of humans.

In the world of Iyona, the world that I made, a world where peace and war is controlled. In a country to the west, a country called Minley, a boy - actually a man aged twenty, laying quietly, eyes closed, ignoring the pressure of a fairy watching. Sleep fell long after the comfort of bed, used to the being sat next to him. The moon soon sunk into the horizon beyond and the sun rose as the birds called. The man sat up, stretching his arms… No. he rubbed his eyes, yawning in tandem with the being watching over him. He placed his feet on the ground by his bed, standing on his feet and walking to the door. His movements clumsy, his eyes focused, not looking at the fairy that sat on his nose. His hand planted on the door handle, opens up to the hall. A colourful hall, decorated with care. His mum and dad worked hand in hand before the man was born. He tread through the hall, pinching the bridge of his nose, forcing the fairy to move aside. The blue string tied to the fairies foot and to the man’s finger, moved across the nose making it tingle. The man ignored the sensation, going into the room his parents relaxed in. The TV exuded a bright glow, his mum sat watching the morning news, his dad sat reading the king of Iyona, a book by my design, a book not too dissimilar to your world. As the man gazed at the TV, let's say, a unicorn of bright colours passed by his face, a thread coloured red attached to the horn and to his mothers finger that’s tapping. Now… ah yes a Black horse, a Kelpie, that’s perfect, passed by the unicorn, connecting the thread, a red thread connected not only to the father but to the mother’s unicorn too. The man looked away from the horse of temptation, the horse that would drag him to water to drown him when given the chance. The horses not only tethered to their owners but to each other, neither happy nor sad to share the same weight of the fates of the humans that sat in wait. The boy finally spoke announcing his presence to his loving parents who greeted him too.

He moved to the kitchen, so average in size, neither small nor big, like the rest of the place he calls home. The man got a pan and placed it on what is it called? Oh yes the oven… oh wait the hob. He poured the oil in the pan, leaving it to heat while he moved quickly to the fridge to get some butter for his bread. He placed the bread on a plate and cracked an egg into the heated pan, making a sandwich to fuel his stomach. He finished getting ready for the morning, moving his body to work, ignoring the creatures and the tethers that filled his view, seeming to be weaker than any other day. He walked to the bus stop, waiting for one to appear but quickly saw the amount of beings filling the automobile. He decided to walk, it wasn’t too far, only about thirty minutes if he moved fast. What or who should he see on the way to work, oh perfect, look king arthur, from you know the tale, of the young man who once pulled a sword from a stone, not often you see a human myth, so the man, our protagonist, was stunned to see the legend tethered to a young child, marching like she was in an army. He quickly returned his face from shock back to his perfect stoic facade. He continued on, pretending nothing's wrong with the fairy that laid on his shoulder seeming to groan in pain.

He finally arrived, at long last, barely making it without being late. The man approached his desk and sat, forcing an ignorant persona to the hippocamp that stared intensely with seemingly no end. The fairy, unaware of the being staring, rolled over on the man’s shoulder, groaning continuing. The man continues on with his work, his coworker finally moving away, pulling the Greek monster away. His eyes glide over to his computer… actually no, to his coworker, a beauty of unbelievable standards. A thread, let’s say green in colour, tied to her finger and to a serpopard, a creature of Egyptian origin in your imperfect world, but the country of Igrall in my perfect world. A warning, perhaps to stay away as the creature is believed to be a symbol of chaos. A chaos that reigned over a land full of sand, a land filled with mystery and majesty where he demands. He being the one who tamed the beast, the one who is unknown to the present day, perhaps the one the beauty awaits.

Back to the man of the hour, the one we follow for this simple tale. The man bolted his eyes back to the computer, staring at it as he pressed the right letters. He glanced at the words placed on his screen, replying to emails he deems important and ignoring those I deem unimportant for the story. The man sighed his usual sigh, after all it is only twenty past seven. Still seven hours and forty minutes left. He pushed his way through this deadly game of repetition and mundane hours and days.

He moves on, watching the people and monsters that seem to be restless and running in different ways. The threads of some beasts seem to be fraying, odd to say the least. The man ignored the signs of bad, worried about the fairy following by force. The fairy growls and nibbles at the tether, seeming anxious and sacred and angry and worried. The man forced ignorance, not allowing fear to show, not allowing the fairy to discover he knows. He made it this far he can make it farther, ignorance is bliss, is how the phrase goes, though ignorance comes with a price, such as a life or lives might I say.

In hours the world was in chaos, the monsters unleashed from their tethers, attacking the ones they once were tied to, their prisons destroyed and their feelings that birthed them controlling their actions and their motions. The coward we witnessed this early morning, finally found his strength… actually that’s too cliche, instead of finding his strength and purpose, he allowed the world to fall in dismay, forcing ignorance, pretending to be okay. His parents tormented, dead one may say, his little crush now in control of the beings it’s claimed, awaiting for the calm of its king to tame, but the king does not exist, only a coward of a man who ignored what was there, a man who had only a fairy tethered. A fairy that went feral and disappeared, never showing its face again. It wasn’t long till the world completely collapsed, leaving nothing but bones, feelings and ash.

This was the story of a cowardly man, a godly narrator and of destroyed lands. The supposed hero of the tale now perished, the emotions that birthed the creatures now risen. This story has reached its end, the terrible narrator now moving on to nothing better or worse, something that means something or maybe doesn’t. It’s time to go back to your ignorant lives.
