Tales From Sidereal

(DEWIE) Where the Devil Sleeps

(DEWIE) Where the Devil Sleeps

Apr 28, 2026

Bowie liked to sleep on his stomach, and also, conveniently, liked to sleep with his head resting on Dev’s chest where he could hear the others heartbeat. Dev couldn’t remember the last time he woke up to someone in his arms like this. They were in Dev's quarters on the First Battallion's flag ship. Much like his room in Scintilla's grand palace, it was barren of all personal affects. The only thing remarkable about it was the bed, fit for the Prince of Everything where the rest of his crew was left with the stiff, foam mattresses reminscent of any other standard military bunk. Perhaps that was why Bowie preferred spending his nights here. Perhaps the human didn't care for his admiral at all, only the bed that they sometimes shared.

Dev gently massaged the small of Bowie’s back, lost in thought. Bowie snuggled in a bit more before his eyes fluttered open and he squinted up. His messy hair, its color reminiscent of desert planets and the dirt that populated them, was even messier than normal.

“That’s a good look for you.” Dev murmured, hand moving up to gently tug through Bowie’s unruly mop.

Bowie scoffed, putting his head back down and closing his eyes. Bowie was many things, but a morning person was not one of them. Especially when they were like this. Sooner or later they would have to get up and go their separate ways. Bowie would go back to the barracks and pretend he hadn’t even left and Dev would go to the bridge and wait for the administration on Scintilla to give him and his crew their orders.

And maybe if Dev was lucky, Bowie would come see him again tonight and they’d fall asleep like this again.

“It was nice,” Dev said softly, continuing to pull the tangles from Bowie’s hair, “not waking up alone.”

Bowie gave no indication that he heard him, his shoulders rising and falling slowly as the warmth of their bed and the sound of Dev’s heartbeat lulled him back to sleep.
