Dev should have considered that this might happen. He had left Bowie in his quarters at the Imperial Palace. A spacious room which was outfitted with all the necessities-- a bed, a desk, a closet, a bathroom suite-- and a drink cart. Dev should have considered that his boyfriend, a human with a remarkable streak for adventure, would have seen the cart, assessed that it did indeed carry a variety of liquors and wines, and then fixed himself a drink.
Dev did not consider this.
He also did not consider how many drinks Bowie might have fixed himself. Which is where Dev finds himself now, with a delightfully drunk human, red faced and grinning at him.
“Bowie,” Dev said gently, reaching out to card his fingers through the humans soft hair, “surely… you didn’t drink that entire bottle.”
“It tasted like gin.” Bowie said, pushing up into Dev’s hand, “I lo--ve gin. ‘Specially when it’s mixed with somethin’ tangy.”
Dev didn’t know what gin was. The liquor Bowie had consumed was a bitter variety from Sintra, the monks of the Sacred Penumbra were its brewers, and it was almost exclusively used as a sort of medicine or ritual drink. Because of its potency, it was not meant to be drank in large quantities.
“You need to drink some water,” Dev said helplessly, he didn’t know why Bowie’s face was red, why he was so warm, it felt like he had a fever, “I’m going to call a doctor."
“I love you too, Dev.” Bowie was saying, “You’re sweet as a peach and taller than a tree, you’re taller than the first guy I ever kissed, you know that?”
“Oh I’m sure, it is not difficult for me to be taller than a human.” Dev said, reaching for his comm puck when Bowie, who's strength always seemed to take Dev by surprise, took him by the shoulder and grappled him onto the bed.
“But he wasn’t as sweet as you. He was kinda mean, actually.” Bowie pouted his lip, cupping Dev’s very confused and concerned face with his hands, “And that’s why you’re the one I love.”
Dev opened his mouth to ask for clarification when Bowie suddenly leaned hard to the right and fell unconscious.
One frantic call later and the human doctor came, confirmed that Bowie had simply fallen asleep, and then recommended that he drink water and eat something when he woke up.
These are all snippets, drabbles, and one shots that were originally posted to my personal website. Each chapter is a different story and follows different characters. All take place in my sci-fi universe Project GATE.
