The room smells of incense and tea sticks. Bowie isn’t used to it at all, especially after spending so long in a place that smelled like liquor and dart smoke. The clothes he had been given weren’t much different from his military uniform— a black sleeveless number and a pair of loose pants that had been hastily hemmed to fit him. Even so the fabric was softer and leagues more comfortable than what he was used to. He found himself longing for his jacket which he hoped Dev hadn’t thrown out.
Speaking of Dev, he was still very much asleep and still very much next to Bowie.
So it wasn’t a dream, then.
Bowie stared at him for maybe a second too long before trying to get up, only to feel one of Dev’s arms catch him by the middle and drag him back under the covers.
“You still need to rest.” Dev mumbled, not fully awake.
Bowie scoffs, he’s irritated but it would pass quickly. They hadn’t seen each other in awhile, after all, so maybe Dev was just...
“Please don’t leave.”
Bowie blinks, looking to Dev over his shoulder. Dev’s eyes are cracked open, but he’s still not all the way there. He pulls Bowie closer, pressing his mouth against the nape of Bowie’s neck.
“Not tonight. Not after…”
“Alright.” Bowie mumbles, settling back down, “You don’t need to say it. I know.”
To his credit, Dev doesn’t go on, just holds Bowie closer and closes his eyes. Wrapped in his embrace, Bowie finds himself drifting again. It’s easier to sleep with Dev, even in unfamiliar rooms, on planets light years away from Earth.
These are all snippets, drabbles, and one shots that were originally posted to my personal website. Each chapter is a different story and follows different characters. All take place in my sci-fi universe Project GATE.
