We sat down as we waited for our drinks, next to the guy with wings and a tail. The seat wasn’t particularly comfy. It had cushions on the bottom, which were good, but the back was just a flat, hard wall, which felt kinda painful to lean on. Not too painful though. More or less just annoying.
I was eager to see Purps’ reaction to bubble tea. He didn’t really seem like the type of guy who’d enjoy it, but Fluffy knew him better than me, so maybe he helped him pick the right flavor.
Purps and Fluffy were both leaning against the wall, in a rather comical way that looked like they were mirroring each other, while having a conversation. I have to say, in the few weeks that Purps’ been living with us, I think him and Fluffy have really grown close. Of course me n’ Kumoto like him too, but he’s mainly Fluffys best friend, which is good to see. There aren’t many people our age in our neighbourhood, so it’s hard to connect with many people. I think he might be Fluffy’s only friend. Well, aside from us, of course. I mean, there was one other person. Levi. Levi Ace Kangjeon was his full name, but he’s not here with us anymore.
We then heard our order being called, so I went up to gather them, then bring them back. I walked across the tile flooring. It wasn’t anything too special. Just plane white tiles. I handed Purps and Fluffy their drinks, which were much smaller than mine, sat down where I was before, and started drinking. I watched as Purps took the first sip of his, to see what he thought. At first, his eyes crinkled, unsure of what to think. Then, as he kept drinking, they got wider and wider. Once he had his first sip, he held the cup back to look at it.
“Well, that sure is interesting, ain’t it?” He then, very eagerly, took another sip.
“Y’know what? I think I like it” I was happy to hear that. Of course, I wouldn’t care if he didn’t like it, but it’s always nice when someone you like likes something you like.
Fluffy let out a huge smile, which crossed his whole beak.
I turned to have my drink, which was sitting on the small, round table right in front of me. Kumoto was sitting on the stool across from me, watching me. I always feel strange whenever she watches me, because on one hand, I hate it whenever anyone looks at me, I just feel so awkward, like I’m supposed to be doing something. But on the other, I like Kumoto no matter what she’s doing. She always looks cute, no matter what.
I finished my drink pretty quickly, within a matter of seconds it must’ve been. I’m always super fast when it comes to drinks, I’m not sure why. While I was waiting for everyone to finish their drinks, I bent down to grab my bag and see what I had in there I could do while waiting. I went through the main compartment, then remembered I had my book in the front part, so I pulled out that. Very quickly, I got sucked in. Still, I could hear people talking in the background. I noticed this young turtle boy come in with his dad and two kids, friends I guess. I wondered if it might have been someone’s birthday, because they were all wearing a tiara, and the boy was wearing a dress. Maybe it was his birthday.
I continued reading, waiting for everyone to finish, but also in no rush because I was quite enjoying the book I was reading, although the seat definitely could’ve been comfier. Then, finally, they were finished. Kumoto walked up to the front counter to pay by herself, and, while it wasn’t much time, I still read a little bit while she went up there. She came back, and stood as we all got everything we needed.
“How much was it?” I asked, looking up at her as I gathered my bags.
“Five dollars. Not bad, but could’ve been cheaper.” She looked off to the side. I had all my bags, so I stood up, feeling the weight of each of them as I did. Purps and Fluffy were ready to go, so they jumped off the seat and onto the cold tiles. Then, as they jumped down, someone came up to us. It was that guy, who looked somewhat familiar that I noticed earlier. They got up and stood in front of us, with his wings on proud display behind him.
“Hey…” They said, with a high pitched voice. Kumoto turned around to look at them, while I was awkwardly sandwiched between her and the seat, and the edge of the table slightly digging into my thigh. But oh well, I had no choice but to stand there and wait.
“Hi?” Cautioned Kumoto, looking them up and down, unsure of what to make of them. Maybe she knew who they were.
“Are you Kumoto?” I looked up, surprised. How did they know her name? As I’ve said before, we don’t have many friends. The only other close friend we’ve had was Levi, but he died a while ago. Unless Kumoto had a friend she didn’t tell me about
“And are you Kura?” They asked, turning to me. I was so confused. How did he know my name too? Surely I would remember someone like this.
Their lips were quivering, yet trying to hold a smile together, while they looked at the five of us. They turned to Fluffy to ask him the same question they asked me and Kumoto. I stared at them, trying to remember where I knew them from. At this point, I could tell I knew them. I swear, it was on the tip of my tongue.
“And… are you Fluffy?” Fluffy nodded, just as confused as Kumoto and I were. Then, as they took a step back to look at us all, finally giving me and Kumoto room to move, it hit me.
“And…” I started, trying not to let my emotions well up, as I could feel them, but dared not let myself unwind in public.
“Are you… Levi?” He nodded.
