Part I: The Breach
The sirens were blaring throughout the Apex weapons warehouse. Soldiers were rushing in every direction, their boots echoing against the metal floors. Hoshino Aki, the 4th Squad Commander, was screaming at the troops, her face contorted with rage.
Aki: "Hurry up, you pack of dogs! If you let them escape, I’ll take your heads off myself! Move it! Catch them now!"
Outside in the courtyard, an armored vehicle smashed through the heavy iron entrance gates with a deafening crash, speeding away into the night. Immediately, Apex vehicles swerved to follow, opening fire. Bullets rained down on the armored truck like a hailstorm.
As the Apex vehicles gained ground, the earth suddenly surged upward. A massive pillar of rock erupted from the ground, impaling and destroying the lead Apex car.
Gin: "Good work, Shon. Nero, can't you drive any faster?" Nero: "I'm driving as fast as I can, but this is the limit!" Gin: "If we get caught, our identities will be exposed." Ren: "We won't let that happen!"
An explosion blocked the main road, but the remaining Apex vehicles veered into the forest, continuing the pursuit. An Apex soldier emerged from the roof of a pursuing car with a rocket launcher, aimed at the target, and fired. The missile hit the rear of the team's vehicle. The back of the truck was shredded, and it began to slow down significantly.
Nero: "Damn it! They hit the car, we’re losing speed, boss!" Gin: "There’s no other way. Put on your masks. We’ll lose them in the forest."
The vehicle came to a halt. Apex cars immediately surrounded them, soldiers pouring out with weapons drawn. Apex Soldier: "Get out of the vehicle and put your hands up! Now!" Gin: "Shon, cover us." Shon: "Understood."
Shon raised his hand, gathering orange Vayen energy in his palm before clenching his fist. Suddenly, jagged rock walls erupted from the earth, shielding the vehicle. Seeing the defiance, the Apex soldiers opened fire. Bullets and missiles hammered against the stone barrier.
Shon: "Boss, I hate to say this, but I can't hold this up much longer." Gin: "Listen, stay away from combat as much as possible. Avoid anything that might reveal your identities, understood?" All: "Understood!" Gin: "I'm counting on you, kids. Scatter!"
Ren gathered fire in her hands, causing a small, controlled explosion. A thick cloud of dust and smoke filled the air, blinding the Apex soldiers. Apex Sergeant: "Cease fire!" The soldiers moved toward the vehicle, opening the doors only to find it empty. Soldier: "Sergeant Ogami, this vehicle is empty!" Sergeant Ogami: "Empty? You useless piles of trash!" Ogami noticed footprints leading into the dense woods. Sergeant Ogami: "Advance! This way!"
Part II: The Forest Trap
Deep in the dark forest, Ren and Nero were moving quickly, but Ren suddenly froze. Ren: "Stop!" Nero: "What is it?" Ren: "Did you hear that?" Nero: "Hear what?" Ren: "A sound... it came from that bush over there." Nero: "Come on Ren, let's go, we don't have much time."
Ren’s instincts flared. She spotted a shuriken flying toward Nero and knocked it away just in time. Before Nero could process what happened, Apex’s specially trained ninjas emerged from the shadows. One ninja lunged at Ren, but she gathered her flames and struck him down. However, the ninjas began swarming from all sides. No matter how hard Ren and Nero fought, the numbers were overwhelming.
Nero: "Ren, what do we do? We’re trapped!" Ren: "I don't know! Our attacks aren't working—they’re regenerating instantly!"
One of the ninjas managed to bury a shuriken in Nero's arm. Nero: "Ahh! No, my arm..." Ren: "Nero! Oh no, hold on, partner!" Nero: "Leave me here, save yourself. I can't use my power like this." Ren: "No! I’m not leaving you!"
Just then, a shuriken pierced Ren's leg. She screamed in pain but kept fighting until another struck her other leg. She collapsed to the ground. The ninjas stopped their assault; they needed the team alive for Apex. Ren and Nero looked up, accepting their fate, when a light breeze began to blow. The moonlight broke through the trees, and a white katana fell from the sky with a low whistle, stabbing into the ground right by Ren’s feet.
Ren: "This sword? Could it be?" — "Hey, look at the state of you two. You've been beaten pretty badly." Ren: "That voice—"
The ninjas looked up to see a figure sitting on a tree branch, wearing gleaming white armor. It was Mazuki, looking down with a mocking smile.
Part III: The Mind's Abyss (3 Days Ago)
Back in the mental realm of the "Life Pact," Mazuki stood before a silent nightmare.
Mazuki: "Who are you?" The Black-Armored Samurai stood still, making no sound and no movement. Mazuki: "Hey, I'm talking to you! Who are you?"
Suddenly, red light flared from within the samurai's visor. In the blink of an eye, he attacked. Mazuki barely dodged the strike. The Samurai was incredibly fast, his sword rotting and destroying everything it touched, leaving behind trails of black shadow. The screams of dead souls echoed from the blade, filling the house.
Mazuki: "What is this? Am I going to die? No! I won't let that happen!"
The Samurai appeared instantly in front of Mazuki, swinging his blade. It nearly took Mazuki’s head off. Mazuki: "You lucky bastard!"
Mazuki jumped through the window, but the sight outside was horrifying. The trees and plants were rotted, the houses were in ruins, and a dark sky ruled above. Red lightning flashed across the clouds, illuminating the wasteland.
Mazuki: "What happened here? Where is this place?" Hao: "Don't you know where it is?" Mazuki: "Huh? Hao, is that you?" Hao: "Yes, it's me." Mazuki: "How? You damn jerk, where did you send me? There's a demonic samurai chasing me!" Hao: "I didn't send you anywhere." Mazuki: "Then where is this?" Hao: "Look for yourself."
Mazuki walked into a town square and stopped in shock when he saw the church. Mazuki: "But this is—" Hao: "Yes, your home. Kiro Town." Mazuki: "But how? What happened to Kiro?" Hao: "Nothing happened to Kiro. This is your mind. I'm not actually with you; what you see is just an image, you can only hear my voice." Mazuki: "What has this place become?" Hao: "You are the only one responsible for this, Mazuki." Mazuki: "Me? But how?" Hao: "Your soul and mind are like poison. Your desire for revenge has fed you for so many years that your spirit is poisoned. Aren't you tired yet, Mazuki? Release your soul. Be free. Don't let the evil consume you." Mazuki: "My soul is free and good with me. No one can rest until I have my family's revenge, and that includes my own soul. Now stop the philosophy and tell me how to kill this damn samurai!" Hao: "The answer is simple: WITH YOUR SOUL." Mazuki: "Hey Hao, don't disappear! Hey! Come back here, you son of a—"
A heavy aura approached. Mazuki turned to see the Samurai coming for him, looking even more enraged. Mazuki grabbed a metal pipe from the ground. Mazuki: "Alright, come on then!" The Samurai lunged. Mazuki tried to block, but the metal pipe rotted into dust the moment the Samurai's blade touched it. Mazuki: "To hell with this! This is unfair!"
The Samurai threw a poisoned dagger that struck Mazuki in the leg, bringing him to the ground. Mazuki: "Did you think this would stop m—" Suddenly, a sharp pain hit Mazuki’s heart. Black poison from the dagger began spreading through his body. Mazuki: "What's happening? I don't feel good... damn it, the dagger was poisoned."
Mazuki collapsed. As his eyes began to close, he saw the Samurai approaching. Mazuki: "No... I can't die at the hands of this filth... but I think I really am dying." Hao: "Mazuki! What's happening? Are you okay?" Mazuki: "I'm dying, Hao... I'm dying." Hao: "No, you won't die! Hold on! I'm trying to save you!" Mazuki: "It's too late, Hao." Hao: "You damn idiot, hold on a bit longer! You have to save your family!"
The Samurai, certain Mazuki was finished, turned to walk away. But after a few steps, he stopped. He felt it—a terrifying, heavy Vayen power. It was coming from Mazuki. Inside Mazuki’s mind, something was waking up. Vesper opened his eyes.
Vesper: "Hah? A Life Pact, huh? Not bad, kid. A good start, but it looks like you're dying. I can help you... on one condition." Mazuki: "What condition? If I die, you die too, don't you understand that?" Vesper: "But you don't want to die." Mazuki: "It doesn't matter to me. I have nothing to lose. But you do, don't you?" Vesper: "What do you mean? You disgusting creature, are you threatening me?" Mazuki: "I'm not threatening you. I'm telling you that if you don't come under my control, you will die. It's that simple."
Vesper saw the change. The naive, scared Mazuki was gone. He had no choice. Vesper: "Fine. I accept. But this isn't over, kid."
Mazuki stood up. Black smoke swirled around him. Red lightning gathered in his hands. His white hair turned pitch black, and his eyes glowed a deep, menacing red. This was Vesper’s power. The Samurai attacked, but Mazuki caught the blade with a single hand. He looked the Samurai in the face.
Mazuki: "Now, it's my turn to play."
Mazuki crushed the Samurai's sword into pieces with his bare hand and delivered a punch that sent the Samurai flying. In a flash, he was beside the Samurai again, raining down blows of red lightning. He threw him into the sky and struck him with a massive bolt, laughing with pure joy like a child in a playground. He slammed the Samurai into the ground and began pummeling him, laughing hysterically. Finally, the Samurai’s head was crushed, and black blood rained down like water.
Mazuki looked up at the sky and roared: Mazuki: "THIS WORLD IS MINE!"
