Takes place the night before Episode 1:
Before the end, there is silence. No warning. Everything is still, unaware. Cities bustle and pollute the air. Politicians scheme, while parents hold their children. The silence does not disturb anyone besides her.
She sat on her bed in the dark. It was quiet. Usually, the crickets would sing outside her window.
They didn’t tonight.
She could hear her every breath fill the silence around her.
Before she could put her headphones in, she heard it.
It was faint. Low.
A hum.
The very essence of the world’s frequency.
It drew her to the window near her bed.
The street outside was dark.
A shadow world.
Before her eyes could fully adjust to the darkness, a singular streetlight came back to life. Its light illuminated her figure in the window.
The light began to flicker violently.
She stepped back from the window with the light still in view when it suddenly went dark.
Then it flickered again. One.
Again. Two.
Again. Three.
The hum stopped abruptly.
Then she heard it.
One cricket.
Another one.
Then another.
And then all of them began to sing outside her window again.
