Too late to let it go

Curiosity

Curiosity

May 27, 2026

Arnold wasn't supposed to be thinking about it.
He had meeting in ten minutes.
Three calls lined up.
Emails waiting.
And yet-
''...Tua''
The name slipped out quietly.
Unintentional.
Arnold leaned back in his chair, staring at his laptop screen...
That question hadn't left his mind since morning.
He had lived in that building long enough.
He knew the residents.
The routines.
The patterns.
And Tua-
was never one of them.

So when did he move in?
Or-
Did not not?
His jaw tightened slightly
The image replayed again.
Tua-
Laughing
Leaning on someone eles.
Walking out without even looking at him.
Like he didn't exist
Arnold's fingers tapped once against the table.
And that guy.
Unfamiliar,
Arnold didn't like unknowm variables.
He picked up his phone.
Paused for second.
Then dialed
''Yeah,'' he said once the call connected. '' I need something.''
A short slience on the other end.
''There's guy name Tua - works nearby.
Another pause.
''I want basic details.''

His tone was clam.
Professional.
Like this meant nothing
''No,'' he added after a second, eyes narrowing slightly, ''not official. Just what's available.''
He ended the call before any more questions came.
Arnold leaned back again.
Exhaling slowly.
Why am I doing this?
The thought came.
Clear.
Direct.
He didn't answer it.
Didn't need to.
Because the answer was already there.
Not curiosity
Not really.
Something else
Something he didn't like naming.
His gaze shifted to the window.
He said, he didn't know me
Arnold let out a quiet breath.
''Fine..''
If Tua wanted to act like a stranger.
Then Arnold would treat him like one
But-
That didn't mean he wouldn't find out.
