The next day the three of them were absolutely beat. All had eyebags dragging down to their chins and barely spoke a word to one another, they seemed to understand the exhaustion. None of them knew how they were going to get through the day, especially when they knew they had to get back to work after school.
Satoru knew that he would end up falling asleep in at least one of his classes. Though he had to learn to deal with it since this would be his life for a while. Satoru figured he might have to start drinking coffee like his sister, though he really hated the taste. He wasn’t sure how she, or any adult for that matter, drank that stuff like it was water.
While he and Kanato walked to class, Satoru noticed that Kanato’s hair was a mess, he was usually pretty neat when it came to his appearance. His tie also was sloppily done. Satoru guessed that Kanato was scrambling to get out of the house that morning.
Kanato also looked disheveled. He didn’t seem to be as organized. Kanato kept looking for his textbook. Satoru assumed that he might’ve forgotten it at home.
“Here, you can share with me,” Satoru offered, pushing his textbook so that it was between the two of them.
“Thanks, I guess I left behind it this morning. I’m all over the place this morning.” Kanato said, letting out a sigh as he finished getting his things into place.
“Yeah, I kinda figured. You look like shit. Though I guess we were on the phone for quite some time last night,” Satoru said, flipping to an empty page in his notebook.
Kanato slowly nodded, “yeah…I’m sorry if I kept you up last night.”
Satoru shook his head, “it’s fine. I’m usually up at that time anyway. Work is the main thing exhausting me.”
Kanato smiled, “well I’m glad that I wasn’t the one who made your eyebags so dark.”
Satoru rolled his eyes and playfully nudged him.
Not long after class started Satoru started to feel even more tired than he was just mere moments before. The teacher droned on about some lame subject he could’ve cared less to hear about and it wasn’t doing him any favors.
Satoru fought to stay awake but unfortunately he lost the battle. After all, it wasn't his first time doing such a thing.
Satoru ended up sleeping through the entire class and only woke up when Kanato was poking his pencil into Satoru’s ribs.
He jolted awake, looking at Kanato with a startled expression, a bit of drool coming from the corner of his lips.
Kanato stifled a laugh, “you look like you slept well.”
Satoru wiped his mouth and stretched, “yeah, but I still feel tired,” he yawned.
“Hey, you should be relieved that the teacher didn’t do anything. If it were me, I’m sure I’d get a stern talking to.”
“Well don’t worry. You can take a nap during lunch. You can even use my shoulder as a pillow,” he said teasingly.
Kanato grinned, “wow, how generous. I might just take you up on that offer,” he said, hugging Satoru’s arm.
“Alright. Get off me,” Satoru said, smiling as he pushed Kanato off of him.
“Oh yeah, can you give me your notes?” Satoru asked.
“Uh sure,” Kanato said, lending Satoru his notebook.
Satoru opened his own notebook, getting ready to copy the notes but when he saw them he looked back to Kanato, “so what are these…”
“My notes, what are you talking about?”
“Look,” Satoru said, showing Kanato the notes, “none of this makes sense. You’re all over the place.”
Kanato began reading the notes and his eyes widened, “wow you’re right…I have no idea what happened. I guess the fatigue caught up to me…”
“It would seem so…Well if we’re lucky Hiroto might have something. But if I’m being honest I don’t have much faith,” Satoru said, starting to pack up his things.
“I would have to agree with you but we can still ask him during lunch,” Kanato said, grabbing out his textbook for their next class.
Their next classes seemed to drag by, Satoru was continuously shifting in his seat and fidgeting in order to keep himself awake. Kanato didn’t seem to be doing any better, his eyes were half-lidded and he was constantly in the process of falling asleep, just to jolt awake. It was pure torture.
When it was finally time for lunch, Hiroto skipped into their classroom, a smile on his face but immediately dropped upon seeing the poor state his friends were in.
“Woah, what happened to you guys?” Hiroto asked, eyebrows raised.
“Work and school, I went to bed waay too late last night,” Satoru said, stretching.
“You had work too, how are you not tired?” Kanato asked, raising a brow.
“Oh, I slept through class,” Hiroto smiled.
Kanato face-palmed, “that is not something to be proud of.”
“Well now there’s no need to ask for notes. Maybe one of your groupies can share some,” Satoru said.
“What happened to your notes? You’re always super diligent with your notes,” Hiroto said, looking at Kanato.
“I was so tired that they got messed up,” Kanato sighed, sounding disappointed in himself.
“Wow, that’s a first,” Hiroto said, “but I can try to get those notes for you. I’m hanging out with the girls after school today.”
Kanato smiled, clasping his hands together, “you’re a lifesaver!”
“Of course, anything for you guys,” he smiled.
