The horse came to a stop, and Zorin immediately ran up to it.
“Your face!” yelled Zorin.
Hazren knew it probably looked horrible and that it would scar, but his pain was replaced by relief upon seeing his brother.
“I’m okay, don’t worry, where’s Jay and Janice?”
Zorin looked up at him and shook his head.
“They were in the main house, where the explosion happened.”
Hazren looked away for a second.
“I know,” said Zorin.
Hazren looked at the horses that were wandering in the field around them and began counting them.
“You saved seven of them.”
“I made sure to get Claw out, too, but he ran away once we got here,” said Zorin.
Hazren touched his eye and felt the burned skin around it while wincing in pain.
“How bad is it?” asked Hazren as he leaned down from the horse.
He saw Zorin squint to observe his face. “It's pretty bad, man. It might scar.”
Hazren sighed and adjusted himself on Claw. “We need to call the fire department or something.”
“I tried, but the calls aren’t going through,” said Zorin.
Hazren reached for his pockets but felt nothing.
“My phone?” whispered Hazren to himself.
“Let’s just get home,” said Zorin.
Hazren was quiet for a second before looking down at his brother.
“Get on a horse. We can ride home and call from there.”
Zorin didn’t say anything. He walked up to a horse, hopped on it, and looked at Hazren.
“Let’s go,” said Hazren, flicking Claw with the riding crop, which made the horse gallop forward.
“Right behind you,” yelled Zorin.
Hazren didn’t bother looking back. He had to get home and make this call.
