The Devil and The Designer

The Gala’s Edge

The Gala’s Edge

Jun 02, 2026

The day of the gala arrived with a humidity that hung heavy over Mumbai, but inside the Grand Ballroom, the climate was one of crystalline perfection. For Tanishka, the morning had been a blur of steam, safety pins, and the sharp scent of hairspray. Her "beauty and brains" were operating on pure adrenaline now. She moved between the dressing stations, her eyes missing nothing. A loose thread on a sleeve, a model’s slightly crooked walk—she corrected it all with a calm authority that earned the silent respect of the veteran backstage crew.

Behind the scenes, the alliance was working like a well-oiled machine. Advik Bhai had established a command center in the hotel’s security suite, his eyes alternating between the guest list and the live feeds of the perimeter. Aarush Bhai stood with him, a silent pillar of support.

"We have three unaccounted-for vehicles in the secondary lot," Advik noted, his voice clipped and professional.

"My team is already identifying them," Aarush replied, his hand resting on his phone. "Nothing enters this ballroom that hasn't been scrubbed by Aryan’s grid. Relax, Advik. Tonight is for Tanu. We are the walls; let her be the light."

The King’s Arrival

Two hours before the first model was set to walk, the backstage doors opened, and Reyansh walked in. He wasn't in his tuxedo yet; he wore a black button-down with the sleeves pushed up, looking every bit the "Greek God" in command of his empire. He bypassed the frantic assistants and went straight to the center of the room where Tanishka was making a final adjustment to the "Midnight Shadow" gown.

She didn't hear him approach, but she felt the shift in the air. She turned, a stray silk thread caught in her hair, looking exhausted but exhilarated.

"The guest list is at capacity," Reyansh said, his voice a low, steady anchor in the chaos. "The press is already calling this the event of the decade. How are you holding up, Tanu?"

"I think I’ve forgotten how to sit down," she admitted, offering him a small, weary smile. "But the collection is ready. It’s exactly what I wanted it to be."

Reyansh stepped closer, reaching out to gently pluck the stray thread from her hair. His fingers lingered for a second too long for it to be just a professional gesture. "I’ve seen the way you’ve worked this week. The late nights, the perfectionism... it reminds me of someone I know."

"An arrogant billionaire?" she teased, her eyes sparkling.

"A friend," he corrected softly. He looked at the gown, then back at her. "Tonight isn't just about the clothes, Tanu. It’s about the fact that you survived the pressure. I’m proud of you."

The word 'proud' from a man like Reyansh was heavier than any trophy. Tanishka felt a lump in her throat. The "Devil" wasn't just her ally; he was the person who had seen her at her most vulnerable this week and hadn't looked away.

"Thank you, Rey," she whispered. "Now, go get changed. You’re supposed to be the most powerful man in the room, and you’re currently standing in a pile of discarded lace."

He let out that rare, dry chuckle that always made her heart skip. "I’ll be in the front row. If you need anything—a glass of water, a distraction, or someone to intimidate a critic—just look at me."

The Red Carpet Symphony

The ballroom doors opened at precisely 8:00 PM. The elite of Mumbai poured in, a sea of diamonds and designer labels. Vedika, the "Lady Don," looked stunning in a deep maroon saree, walking alongside Advik, who looked regal in his ceremonial attire. Kavya and Esha Maa followed, the two sharing a bond of mutual respect that was visible to everyone in the room.

Aryan (AV) walked in with Zyra, his "monster" persona fully active as he scanned the crowd. Zyra, looked like a vision in a gown Tanishka had specifically designed to match her fiery personality. Aju and Mira were already busy playing host, their youthful energy keeping the atmosphere light.

As the lights began to dim and the first heavy, rhythmic beat of the runway music started, the room fell into a pregnant silence. The "Nanda-Mehara" alliance was no longer a rumour; it was about to become a visual reality.

The Final Bow

The show was a masterpiece. As the models moved, the transition from traditional Nanda elegance to modern Mehara power was seamless. But the true moment of magic came when the "Midnight Shadow" gown hit the stage. The deep navy silk shimmered under the spotlights, looking like the night sky over Mumbai.

When Tanishka finally stepped out for her bow, the standing ovation was immediate. She stood at the head of the runway, her eyes searching the front row. She saw her family—Advik, Vedika, Esha Maa—all beaming with pride. And then, she saw Reyansh.

He was standing, his hands in his pockets, his eyes fixed on her with an intensity that burned through the distance. He wasn't clapping loudly like the others; he simply gave her a slow, deliberate nod. It was the look of a man who had seen the work behind the glory.

She walked off the stage and was immediately engulfed by the press, but her mind was still on that moment of silence with him. The "Designer" and the "Devil " had built something tonight that went beyond fashion. They had built a foundation of trust.

As the families gathered in the VIP lounge afterward for a private toast, Tanishka found herself sitting next to Reyansh.

"So," she said, raising her glass of sparkling cider toward him. "Did I pass the test?"

"You didn't just pass, Tanu," Reyansh said, clinking his glass against hers. "You rewrote the rules. Welcome to the top."
