World War Era [Hayase and Touga]
A soldier exchanges letters with another soldier stationed miles away.
“Hello, you probably don’t know me but I’m writing you this letter so that I’ll be remembered by someone else before I go. I don’t have a family, I was abandoned and became an orphan. I joined the Military to serve this country and I thought that it would be better because I’m already alone. Well, it’s kind of lonely but I’m trying. Our captain told us to write a letter to someone we loved, but since I don’t have a family anymore he said I could still write a letter and he’ll give it to someone stationed far away. I guess an officer will read this too, I’ll be happy to be remembered. I’m Touga Kiito, a low rank military officer stationed in the far north of Shibuya.”
A letter by Touga, a soldier stationed from the far north of Shibuya. After days of counting and waiting for a response although he thought that he won’t get any, Touga, was cleaning in their barracks suddenly an officer entered and dessiminated all the letters, he waited then later on received a letter. He was surprised and excited, it was the first time he received a letter and was curious about what’s inside.
“Hello Touga, I was the one who received your letter and I think you wouldn’t expect that someone would respond to you. I’m Hayase Ichiro, actually, the letter was supposed to be given to someone else but since they don’t want to be associated, I took the chance and asked for our captain. I’m an officer too but I mostly stay at the office, doing the computer works, documents and anything else. It doesn’t compare to what you are experiencing there. I hope you are doing well and healthy. I’m asking if could you address the letter to me next time, I’m willing to receive it so that you’ll have someone to remember you always. I was heartbroken when I read that letter you sent, that’s why I’m so eager to help you. I once became an orphan too so we share some same experiences in life but the good thing for me was I found a family. I joined the army too to serve the country and to protect my family, but I guess I’ll do that while I’m at the office, funny right? Let’s keep in touch, and hope you keep safe. God Bless You.”
Hayase responded in his letter, the first time Touga felt known, seen, and remembered.
They kept on giving and receiving letters. Through ink and paper, affection blossoms. Sweet, full of love, full of devotion.
“Good day to you Kiito. I have a news, we will have an inspection by next week there in Shibuya, we’ll visit your station too and will bring supplies. I think I’ll be able to see you soon. Isn’t that good news? Don’t get too excited, Promise that we’ll see each other soon. Here’s a picture of me, remember my face and I’ll remember you. I’ll tell you what I truly feel when we met, keep safe.”
Yours Truly,
Hayase.
Touga received the letter, he took out the picture and examined Hayase’s face. He smiled and stared at it for a long time. “so this is what you look like, you’re truly an Angel.” in his mind, Hayase was the Angel that saved him from loneliness, and he’s happy he’ll finally meet him soon. Although they didn’t know they won’t be able to have a chance to see ecah other even before they can finally meet.
At the same time their barracks was attacked, explosions are heard, people panics, they fought the battle until they were out of breath.
In the office, a report arrived. The station from Far North of Shibuya has been attacked. Hayase heard it, his heart began to race, face worried, mind uneasy. They haven’t heard anything from the station for a few days, then the letters arrives unopened.
Marked "Deceased." His world collapsed, his heart feels heavy, emotions stirred. “We haven’t even met, yet you left already. If only I came to you earlier, if only I said what was meant to be said and tell you I love you, would that change a thing? I… love you” he cried while clutching his chest, kneeling.
Missed Chance was because of Fate.
