After a few short minutes of riding, they brought the horses to an abrupt stop outside the house’s driveway, where Sirel was cleaning his new car.
“Holy fuck! What the fuck happened to you two?” said Sirel as he ran over to them and helped Hazren off the horse.
“The ranch, there was an explosion,” said Zorin.
“Huh? What?” said Sirel, “An explosion?”
“Give me your phone, now!” said Hazren to his father.
Hazren saw his father examine his face and hesitate before he spoke
“It’s in the house, let’s get inside,” said Sirel.
Hazren stepped through the back door and was greeted by the aromas of Arelia’s cooking. He saw Sirel’s phone on the counter, walked up to it, and picked it up.
“No service,” he said.
Before he could ask for another phone, he heard the clicking of the stove and looked at the unattended pots on it. He walked up to the stove and turned the knobs. It clicked once, clicked again, and then silence. There was no fire.
“Check the sink,” said Hazren loudly.
Zorin walked up to the kitchen sink and turned the knobs, but nothing happened.
Hazren stood there quietly with his father and brother before Sirel broke the silence.
“I’ll get Arelia and Saelis; you should sit, Hazren.”
Hazren and Zorin both walked into the living room and sat on the couch, while Sirel ran upstairs.
“Did the explosion take down phone lines?” said Hazren while looking at Zorin.
“It could have, but why isn’t the stove working or the sink?” Zorin replied.
“I'm not sure,” said Hazren as he lay his head back on the couch and stared at the ceiling.
It was quiet for a few moments. Hazren could hear the birds outside, and he closed his eyes, taking in their tunes.
“Stay awake,” said Zorin.
“I will, don’t worry,” said Hazren. He opened his eyes and finally looked at his hands; they were bloody and disgusting from the dirt and grime. Before he could say anything about them, he heard Arelia.
“Sirel! This better not be your way of getting me back downstairs, I told you I’m done with this, and you! All you do is argue.”
Hazren could hear them walking down the stairs, and Arelia was livid as she walked into the living room, but before she could say another word, she stopped.
Hazren could see the shock in her eyes.
“Don’t worry, Mom. It’s not that bad,” he said.
Saelis walked in after her and gasped. Then she walked away and into the kitchen.
Arelia came and sat next to Hazren. She touched his face, and he winced.
Saelis walked quickly back into the room with all the medical supplies in the house and laid them out on the table.
“Dad,” said Zorin. “We have to pop his shoulder back in place.”
“Yeah, I know,” said Sirel as he walked towards Hazren.
Hazren saw his father examine his shoulder and then look at him.
“The faster I do this, the better,” said Sirel as he grabbed Hazren’s arm and pulled it up and to the left.
“Fuck!” screamed Hazren. He tried to focus his vision, but the room began to sway, and before he could say another word, everything went black.
