The Devil and The Designer

The Proposal and the Secret

The Proposal and the Secret

Jul 04, 2026

Months drifted past like a beautiful montage against the chaotic backdrop of Mumbai. The Nanda-Mehara luxury label had completely captured the national market, but within the private walls of their estates, the real story was the deep, unshakable foundation built by Reyansh and Tanishka. They had spent the last several months experiencing a flawless, deeply grounded courtship—navigating boardrooms by day and enjoying quiet, late-night drives along Marine Drive by night. They were entirely in sync, their love backed by the absolute trust they had built from the very beginning.

But Reyansh was a man who planned his life with absolute precision. He had loved her as his business partner, he had treasured her as his girlfriend, and now, he was entirely ready to make her his wife.

The moon was high over the Arabian Sea when Reyansh brought Tanishka back to the private coastal pavilion where he had first asked her to be his girlfriend. The fairy lights were back, casting a soft, romantic glow over the marble floor, but the atmosphere felt infinitely more profound tonight.

Tanishka walked onto the terrace wearing a classic, elegant emerald-green silk saree, her long hair pinned elegantly to one side. Her sharp analytical mind immediately picked up on the subtle tension in Reyansh's posture. He was dressed in a pristine white linen shirt and dark trousers, looking every bit the striking modern "Greek God," but his dark eyes held a weight she hadn't seen in months.

"You're overthinking something, Rey," Tanishka said softly, stepping closer to him, her voice cutting through the sound of the crashing waves below. "I can practically see your brain calculating variables from here."

Reyansh looked down at her, a faint, incredibly tender smile breaking across his sharp features. He reached out, his long fingers gently cupping her jawline. "I’m not calculating variables, Tanu. I’m realizing that for the first time in my life, a variable completely changed my entire destiny. I built an empire because I wanted power, but I want a future because I have you."

He took a slow, deep breath, his expression shifting into a look of absolute, protective gravity.

"But before I ask you for that future... there is a truth you need to carry," Reyansh whispered, his voice dropping to a low rumble that vibrated in the quiet night air. "You've spent months tracking patterns, trying to find the identity of the 'Devil' who cleared the ports and dismantled the Oberois. You told me the shadow only disappears when the safety is guaranteed."

Tanishka’s breath caught in her throat. Her brilliant mind instantly began racing, connecting every single timeline, every encrypted data leak, and the absolute stillness he always maintained whenever the vigilante was mentioned. "Rey... what are you saying?"

Reyansh reached into his pocket, pulling out a sleek, black encrypted device alongside a beautiful, heavy platinum ring set with a brilliant solitary diamond. He set the device down on the stone ledge, looking directly into her eyes without a single mask left.

"The shadow doesn't disappear, Tanu, because he's standing right in front of you," Reyansh revealed quietly, his voice entirely steady, holding the full weight of his double life. "I am the 'Devil.' I live in the dark cutting away the rot of this city so that the people I love can live in the light. I kept it from you to protect you, but if I’m asking you to be my wife, I won't build our home on a single secret."

Tanishka stood perfectly still, her mind executing a massive, final calibration. The pieces fell into place with a staggering, undeniable logic—the military-grade encryption, the protective wall around her label, the absolute safety she had felt since the very first day. She looked from the ring to his eyes, seeing the raw vulnerability of a king laying down his ultimate defence before his queen.

"You idiot," she whispered, her eyes filling with sudden tears of absolute love and overwhelming relief. She didn't shrink back; she stepped right into his space, her hands gripping his shirt. "My analytical mind was driving me crazy trying to find a pattern, and the pattern was just you protecting me the entire time."

"Are you afraid, Tanu?" he asked softly, his heart hitting a heavy, deliberate rhythm against his ribs.

"Never," Tanishka said with absolute, unshakable certainty. "I told you before—I never had to look over my shoulder because I knew someone was there. Knowing it's you change nothing. I love you, Rey."

Reyansh let out a breath he felt like he’d been holding for years. A radiant, genuine smile broke across his face. He slid the platinum ring onto her finger, its fit absolute and perfect, before pulling her into an intense, crushing embrace, his strong arms wrapping around her waist as the ocean breeze swirled around them.

The Grand Celebration Feast

Later that night, the newly engaged couple returned to the main dining pavilion of the Nanda estate to share the news with the families. The house was already alive with warmth, but the moment Tanishka walked in hand-in-hand with Reyansh, the diamond gleaming on her finger, the room erupted into pure joy.

Maa gasped, her hands instantly flying to her face as tears of profound happiness pooled in her eyes. She rushed across the room, wrapping both of them in a massive, scent-filled maternal hug. "I knew it! My beautiful girl... oh, Tanu, I am so incredibly happy!"

The room filled with the rich, comforting aroma of a festive Kadhai Paneer loaded with bell peppers and freshly ground spices, alongside a simmering bowl of rich, creamy Malai Kofta in a golden gravy. Baskets of hot, flaky Amritsari Kulchas and fresh Missi Rotis were brought out straight from the tandoor. In the center sat a grand handi of fragrant Kashmiri Pulao garnished with saffron strands, pomegranate seeds, and fried cashews. For the sweet ending, the family gathered around a massive platter of hot, syrup-soaked Malpuas served with a layer of thick, chilled Chhena Kheer.

Advik was sitting on the sectional sofa, completely off-duty for the weekend. He was dressed casually in a comfortable maroon henley shirt and dark grey jeans, his posture entirely relaxed as he watched the celebration. He walked over, a genuine, warm brotherly smile breaking across his sharp features as he clapped Reyansh on the back and pulled Tanishka into a tight hug.

"The legal paperwork is officially signed now, Reyansh," Advik joked, his dry smile completely warm as his eyes reflected absolute happiness for his sister. "You're officially part of the family grid. No corporate exits allowed."

"I don't intend to look for one, Advik," Reyansh replied smoothly, his arm resting securely around Tanishka's waist, pulling his new fiancée close to his side.

Just as the family sat down to pass the hot plates of kulchas and kofta, Kavya walked into the pavilion holding Aarush Bhai’s hand, her face radiant with a soft, beautiful glow. She looked at the happy couple, then smiled warmly at Maa.

"Before we start serving the dessert, I think we have one more piece of happiness to add to this table," Kavya said softly, her hand gently resting over her stomach. "Our family is growing. I’m pregnant."

The dining room completely erupted for a second time, Maa letting out a joyous cry as she rushed over to hug Kavya. The table was filled with laughter, clinking glasses, and the deep, rich comfort of traditional food. The courtship was beautifully complete, the secrets were completely cleared, and the grand journey toward the functions had officially begun.
