Prologue Blood dripping onto a dark wooden floor. The floor creaks with every single step. There is a familiar smell in the air... the smell of something absolutely wrong. "Chief! We found something,” Maya called out. "What? What is it?" I yelled back. I ran upstairs as fast as my legs could carry me, my boots thudding heavily against the wood. "Something looks dark. I'm sure it's blood," Maya warned, her voice shaking. "Be careful not to touch it, this might be important evidence." I stood there, my mouth open, completely speechless. A wave of nausea hit me so hard I wanted to throw up, but I knew that wouldn't be professional of me. I forced myself to swallow it down. Kneeling, I pried up the dark wood plank. The texture underneath was mushy, releasing a horrible, suffocating smell. I could literally taste the foul air in the back of my throat. "It's... it's a child," I whispered. It was a rotten child's body, turned inside out, almost completely unrecognizable. Maya stared at the horror, her face pale. "What the hell do we have on our hands?"
