His mother eventually found him sitting on the floor surrounded by neatly organized screws and parts.
“Can you put it back together?” she asked.
Virel studied the collection of pieces.
“…Probably not.”
She laughed.
“Then why take it apart?”
He held up a circuit board and examined it in the sunlight.
“I wanted to know how it worked.”
The radio may have been old and forgotten.
But the curiosity it sparked would last a lifetime.
Years later, Virel would find another radio just like it online. This time, he wouldn’t take it apart.
He would clean it, repair it, make sure it worked, and give it to someone he loved.
Sometimes the most important discoveries begin with something everyone else thinks should be replaced.
