It was the most horrible idea to start dancing on top of eight stacked cereal boxes. Unless, of course, you wanted to end up horribly maimed. Noah had enough problems to deal with without getting himself a hospital bill. Though at the moment, all self-preservation skills had gone down the drain, and currently Noah was twirling with the tomato can in hand, pretending he was on stage on Dancing With the Stars.
He was completely oblivious to the way the boxes wobbled and leaned precariously beneath him. If he'd been paying attention, he would've stopped—he should've stopped—but instead his foot slipped off the edge, and gravity decided it had had enough of this madness and the boxes toppled. He braced himself for the impact, for the pain that would surely come.Preferably, he landed in someone's arms.
He hadn't noticed anyone passing by, so he was temporarily taken by surprise. So perhaps this was heaven.
It's warmer than he anticipated. But not unpleasant.
So this is how it ends.
Falling off a stack of cereal boxes wasn't exactly the best thing to be remembered by. He might as well accept his fate. At least he'll be reunited with his mother. But there was so much he hadn't done. Like get in a relationship. Or even get married.
Then again, who would marry someone like him?
Someone who's literally breaking apart. He cracked open his eyes, expecting to see a white light. Or even meet God.
Instead blue eyes met his, followed by a light smirk.
Daniel.
Nooooooo.
Of course it had to be Daniel.
Wait—
Daniel?!
Did he die as well?!
"Well," Daniel chuckled softly, leaning closer, "I didn't expect us to meet again... like this."
Noah didn't hear a thing he'd said.
How is it that his best friend perished as well?
What happened?!
"D-Daniel?! How did you die?" Noah stammered.
Daniel looked confused.
"What?"
"This is heaven! Why are you here? The café has to get a new cashier now!"
"Ah... Did you get a concussion?" Daniel's brow furrowed as he observed him. "I swear you didn't hit anything. Noah, we're in the supermarket."
Noah finally noticed his surroundings. They were still in the supermarket. The cereal boxes were a mess across the floor. And he was in Daniel's arms.
Holy shit.
OH MY GOD!
Noah looked away from Daniel. The last thing he needed was for that blonde man to see his blushing face.
"What are you doing here?"
"Shopping. Same reason you're here. Though..." He smiled. "I wasn't prepared to catch an angel."
Noah's heart almost grew legs and walked away.
Did he just call me an angel?!
Ahhhhhhhh!
Does he know I like him?
Is this a joke?
Is he flirting?!
Noah didn't realize then that his eyes were practically raking over Daniel's body without permission, and his thoughts weren't exactly pure. The blonde took this as another opportunity to flirt.
"Like what you see? Take a picture. It'll last longer," Daniel said smoothly.
"I was not looking!" Noah squeaked, trying to hide his face.
"Mhm. Sure. You're doing it right now."
Daniel was flirting even more than usual. It was late, and Noah's heart could not handle this at the moment. His first solution to this problem was to hide. Unfortunately, the only place to hide was, well... the bathroom or something. He was currently in the man's arms, and that wasn't an option. So without thinking, he buried his face in Daniel's chest. Daniel didn't say anything for a second and then poked Noah's hair.
"Am I really that warm?"
Okay. I need to get the absolute hell out of here.
Noah pulled his face away from Daniel's chest and stared up at him furiously.
"Put me down!"
Daniel smiled wider.
"Say please and I will."
"Daniel! We're in a damn supermarket, for God's sake!"
The man seemed to finally realize this. He awkwardly placed Noah on his feet. Then he scratched the back of his neck and gave Noah a sheepish smile. Noah glowered at him as he picked up the cereal boxes and put them back. He had never wanted to die more in his life. Especially with that old woman still watching him with a knowing smile. He grabbed the tomato can he'd dropped and handed it to her.
"Here you go, ma'am."
"Thank you, sweetheart. So tell me, is the lovely gentleman your boyfriend?"
"What?!"
All the other shoppers turned in his direction.
"False alarm, people," he cleared his throat. "N-no."
"Okay, dearie. Goodbye."
Noah watched the old woman push her cart away. Daniel tried approaching Noah again.
"Leave me alone," Noah hissed at him. Surprised by his own reaction and grabbed his cart again.
"I-I have to go," he whispered.
Today was a whole lot of crazy. It couldn't possibly get worse. Right?
