Too late to let it go

The Second Variable.

The Second Variable.

Jun 25, 2026

Arnold didn't follow them after the resturant.
He didn't need to.
But he also didn't forget what was said.
''Ohm: don't be late....someone's gonna rob your lover boy.''
It should've been nonsense.
Ohm always talked nonsense.
But Arnold didn't process it like a joke.
Because his eyes had already seen
something else earlier.
Mark.
The way he stood slightly closer to Tua
without making it obvious.
The way he adjusted before anyone else reacted.
The way he never interrupted-but always arrived first when Tua needed space or stability.
Arnold leaned back in his chair.
''Consistent,'' he muttered.
That was the word
Mark was consistent around Tua
Arnold didn't like conclusions without proof.
So he didn't make one.
But he started observing differently.
Not Tua this Time..
Mark.

Next Morning:
The elevator doors closed.
ONLY TWO PEOPLE INSIDE.
Arnold.
Mark.
Silence settled immediately.
Arnold looked at him.
Directly.
No hesitation.
''...Do you like Tua?''
Mark didn't answer right away.
He exhaled slightly.
Then-
''..I should ask you that Question.''
Arnold didn't react.
But his eyes sharpened slightly.
Mark continued calmly.
''...If ask you'do you like Tua'...''
A pause
Then-
''...you'II say yes.''
Arnold didn't deny it.
Didn't confirm it immediately either.
Mark watched him.

Then added-
''...That's why I'm asking you first.''
Arnold finally spoke.
''..If you ask me whether I Like Tua...''
His eyes stayed on Mark
''..I do like him.''
Silence.
Arnold continued, just as steady-
''..That's why I'm asking you.''
His eyes stayed on Mark.
''..Do you like Tua?''
Mark didn't move.
Not surprised
Then he said-
''..Its his DECISION whom to choose.''
A pause.
Then firmer-
''...Not Yours.''
Arnold didn't respond immediately.
He just looked at him.
Longer this time-
Then-
''....If he doesn't choose you,''Arnold said.
''...I will take MY chance.''
Mark's expression didn't change.
But his voice stayed firm
''...THEN YOU'II BE WAITING.''
Floor reached.
Doors began to open.
Neither moved immediately.
Not because of hesitation.
Beacuse both understood something clearly now.
That wasn't confusion anymore.
This was intention.

Arnold was Tua's past .
Mark was supposed to be his future.
But when Arnold suddenly returned with the same calm smile and unreadable eyes
Tua thought the feelings he had buried slowly began to resurface .
And somewhere between jealousy, unfinished memories, and painful choices,
letting go became harder than loving .
