Inside the black shadow

CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

Jun 25, 2026

Eldras was a planet where children were never asked what they wanted to become; here, they were only asked what kind of power they possessed.

Valkaria was the largest and most powerful kingdom on Eldras. Externally, it was thriving—boasting towering spires, vibrant cities, and advanced technologies specifically adapted for people with supernatural abilities. Inside, however, Valkaria was riddled with suspicion, betrayal, and a silent struggle for absolute power.

On a very beautiful and bright day, joyful news echoed through the kingdom: the heir of Valkaria had been born—Kaylith, the first and only son of King Eldarion and Queen Vaelina. On Planet Eldras, people were born with supernatural powers, and this strength would show a small sign even at infancy. Kaylith's parents and the entire kingdom waited with bated breath to see what power he would possess, as they were supposed to name him based on that ability. However, nothing happened—not on the first day, nor weeks later. Thus, the decision was made to name him based on his physical appearance, hoping that as he grew, the name would eventually match his awakening power. Looking at his bright red hair, he was named Kaylith, meaning "Prince Chosen by Fire."

Months turned into years, but no power ever manifested within Kaylith. This became a major topic of gossip and debate, not only within the kingdom but also far beyond its borders.

"The heir is defective," people whispered.

King Eldarion initially protected his son, but as the pressure mounted, his voice and attitude grew increasingly harsh. The throne was far more important than family.

Vaelina remained silent. She saw something in her son that others refused to see—an intelligent, sharp mind, an unquenchable desire to learn, and an unconquerable spirit. But on Eldras, that was simply not enough to rule a country.

King Eldarion possessed a heavy, war-hardened appearance. He was tall and broad-shouldered, standing at a height of 2 meters. His posture was always perfectly straight, giving the impression that he was ready for battle even in times of peace. His hair was brown, laced with silver streaks, and he wore a thick, well-groomed beard that contained even more silver than his hair. His eyes were gray, his face bore battle scars, and for him, the safety of the kingdom could never be compromised for personal feelings.

His superpower was "Unbreakable."

His ability allowed him to withstand lethal blows. The main source of his power was his own willpower; if he harbored doubts about something or if his resolve faltered, his physical strength would weaken as well.

Queen Vaelina was a clever and cautious woman. She rarely expressed her opinions aloud, possessing a highly restrained, proud, and cold personality, never showing her emotions. Her hair was a deep, intense black, matched by stark, prominent eyebrows, and she always wore her hair up, leaving her face completely exposed. This choice further emphasized her pale complexion. Her eyes carried a cold green hue, her gaze was always calm, and she had very faint, barely noticeable freckles. She favored dark, heavy jewelry.

Her superpower was "Ice."

She was capable of creating, shaping, and controlling ice. However, she could only manipulate what was already present in the environment. If there was no water near her, she could not materialize ice out of thin air.

The negative comments regarding Kaylith continued to grow, and alongside them, the King treated his son with increasing severity, even cruelty. He called this, "Let him suffer; it will help awaken his powers." In reality, however, he was simply taking his frustrations out on the child. They could not have a second child because the Queen was ill. Divorcing and marrying another woman was considered a severe violation of the law, especially if you were the King. The only option would be the death of the Queen, but if an heir already existed from the first wife, a child from a second wife had no right to ascend the throne. Furthermore, if the firstborn was incapable of ruling the country, the law dictated that a new king be elected based on whoever was closest to the royal family on the family tree.

These pressures, and especially his father's harsh treatment, began to change Kaylith. He became increasingly unmanageable. At first, it started as childish mischief, but later it escalated into serious trouble. They punished him severely, though never forgetting that he was still the rightful heir.

During this period, no one—not even Kaylith—knew that hidden away in a dark corner of the kingdom, his greatest enemy was watching him. On the occasion of Kaylith turning 13, this enemy had placed a highly cunning and imperceptible curse upon him.

When Kaylith turned 16, a council was convened in Valkaria. It was not a celebratory gathering, but rather one of those grim assemblies where destinies are decided. The council hall was packed with advisors, pretenders to the throne, blood relatives, and military officials. Each took their turn to speak:

"He is unstable."

"He lacks self-control."

"He has no power, yet he holds influence."

"The people are afraid."

King Eldarion listened without interrupting and without defending his son. Vaelina remained silent, her gaze resting for a brief moment on Kaylith’s empty chair.

Finally, the King spoke. "If he remains here," he said in a heavy voice, "Valkaria will continue to fracture. We cannot allow that."

Everyone remained silent; the decision was made without a formal announcement.

The next day, Kaylith was summoned. The King simply looked at his son and said, "This was the final straw of our patience. You want to be free and independent? So be it, we will give you exactly that."

Kaylith smiled, lifted his head high, and gave a proud, defiant "hm," showing that he was completely fearless.

They exiled him without ever explicitly using the word. Kaylith departed for Planet Earth, entirely unaware that someone else had been sent right behind him—someone who was meant to act as the King's eyes and keep a constant watch over him.
