Carmine looks at Elid's beautiful outfit. A pink and purple dress decorated with butterflies, along with a straw hat adorned with roses and daisy ribbons. He stands up from his desk, covered in flower drawings from a book he had been using as a reference. Elid grabs her bag and keys, and they smile at each other before rushing out of the office.
Oxin and Uvital watch them leave as they head toward the art museum. Unfortunately, Delfino Trouble's artwork is not on display. Somehow, Dola follows them.
Hathen and Rockin consider going along, but Hathen says, "I want vanilla ice cream with pistachio and sweet taffy on top."
"You already have one. Do you have a sweet tooth?" Rockin asks.
"Well, I want new combinations, like a milk chocolate bar filled with creamy pistachio and tahini, mixed with crispy shredded kataifi. And fruit with a hard sugar shell. Desserts in the future will go wild, more exciting than flying cars!" Hathen laughs.
"I think the future will be scarier than diabetes. Dola is from the future; you should ask her," Rockin says.
"Dola looks serious and sick, like her timeline has been ruined by money and greed," Hathen replies.
"True, but still, I'd rather die in the future than live forever and witness endless wars and pandemics. It's a blessing to experience life and have stories to tell—but what's the point if it almost kills you?" Rockin adds.
"What are you two even talking about? We're not going to die—we're monsters! Monster Police." Oxin is interrupted as Uvital grabs his arm, stopping him from revealing their secret.
Gorham and Crisker exit the office and head downstairs, following Carmine and Elid toward the art museum. Hathen and Rockin watch them, concerned.
"Why are they ruining the fun?" Hathen asks.
"I mean, they were here before us. They always turn things into 'art meets crime,' while we're more like 'crime meets crime,'" Rockin replies.
Oxin grunts. "Say that again, and I'll fire both of you."
Hathen and Rockin turn around, startled.
The art museum sits along the boardwalk, where feral cats roam the beach. Inside, the paintings feature works by unknown artists from New Jersey. Strangely, most of the figures have no faces. It feels as though one artist influenced them all to paint the same eerie style.
Elid finds it unsettling, and Carmine begins to think of leaving for a better place.
Suddenly, a man with a tall hat and a bushy mustache approaches them.
"Would you like me to paint a portrait of you two?" he asks.
Elid looks at him suspiciously and slowly steps back.
"I'm not sure," Carmine says. "Maybe we could find someone else or just take a photo."
BAM!!!
Meanwhile, Hathen and Rockin stumble into a taffy shop. They try the saltwater taffy—and it tastes awful. Hathen coughs and spits it out while Rockin laughs.
The shop owner, offended, explains that the taffy was soaked during a flood with seawater and calls it a "masterpiece."
"Masterpiece? More like master piss. Get out!" Hathen shouts.
They storm out, disgusted.
Back at the museum, Hathen and Rockin see the tall man grab Carmine and Elid. The couple screams for help. Hathen and Rockin rush in and pull Carmine free—but Elid is captured.
The man drags her to a blank canvas and slams her into it. Her face becomes a hollow void, like the others in the paintings.
Carmine lets go of Hathen and jumps into the painting. Inside, there is nothing but an endless black space filled with faint stars. He finds Elid, and they embrace—both of their faces now empty voids.
Outside, the tall man declares, "I sell souls. No jobs, no money, no hunger, no suffering."
"You're making things worse," Rockin argues. "This is a crime."
"I want it all to end!" the man screams. "No one wants to live like this anymore!"
Gorham and Crisker explore the gallery. The paintings show disturbing scenes—faceless figures in strange, painful situations.
Gorham suddenly punches one of the paintings. Blood pours from his hand as he continues striking it.
"MY MONEY!" the man screams.
A fight breaks out. Gorham knocks him down, and Hathen and Rockin drag the man outside toward the boardwalk.
Then—
SPLAT!
The man collapses, screaming in pain.
Hathen grabs Gorham. "Why would you do that?! We needed him alive!"
SLAP!!
Gorham strikes Hathen with his bloodied hand and storms back into the museum.
Inside, Gorham ignites the paintings. Flames spread rapidly, consuming the artwork. People panic as the building fills with fire.
Fear takes over the instinct to survive.
Even in emptiness, fear remains. It keeps people alive.
The museum burns. The man is arrested—despite being near death.
Gorham watches as glowing souls rise from the flames, drifting into the sky above the boardwalk.
"My story is complete," he thinks.
Inside the painting, Carmine and Elid stand together in a quiet, star-filled space.
"I think we should go out more," Elid says softly. "You mean more to me than anyone... even if I'm different."
"You being different is what makes you special," Carmine replies. "I'm a ghost... but I still understand love."
Elid laughs gently, then holds his hands. Tears begin to fall.
Carmine sees her crying and embraces her. A bright white light fills the space—pulling them back into the real world.
And so ends the story of Carmine and Elid, who promise to live their lives together, for as long as they can.
