My boyfriend is a secret billionaire

Second chance

Second chance

Jul 02, 2026

Sara sat outside in the cold hospital corridor, waiting patiently for the elderly man to wake up.

Her hands were still trembling from the adrenaline of the morning, and her heart felt incredibly heavy.

She had sacrificed her entire interview slot and her family's precious savings just to ensure this complete stranger survived.

Inside the silent VIP room, the white medical monitors hummed steadily. Martin Roy slowly opened his eyes, his sharp, commanding mind instantly fully alert despite his physical weakness.

He looked around the room, carefully assessing his surroundings.

Realizing he was safe but hospitalized, he picked up his smartphone from the bedside table and made a quiet, urgent call.

"John, where are you?" Martin demanded in a hushed but authoritative tone.

"Come to the hospital quickly. But listen to me carefully—enter through the back door so no one sees you."

It didn't take long for his loyal assistant to slip into the hospital room.

John had been frantic all morning, rushing between corporate offices trying to track down the missing billionaire patriarch.

His face was pale with deep worry as he finally rushed to the side of Martin's bed. "Sir, what happened to you? I was searching for you all over the office! The executives are panicking about the Lanston project signature!"

Martin waved his hand dismissively, focused on something else entirely.

"Just buy this medicine first," Martin said, handing John the detailed prescription list that Sara had brought back from the pharmacy earlier.

John looked at the paper, then shifted his gaze to the heavy leather bag sitting on the bedside table.

He knew exactly what was inside that bag. "Sir, where is the money? Can I use that money in the bag to pay for these medicines?"

"Yes, sure," Martin replied smoothly, watching his assistant's reaction closely.

"But why did you ask me to use that specific money? John, you can just use my corporate credit card today."

John looked down, feeling a bit embarrassed by his own question under Martin's piercing gaze.

"Yes, sir. But when I saw this massive bundle of notes sitting right there, I didn't think about the card. Sorry."

Martin didn't argue. He leaned back against the hospital pillows and stared out the window, completely lost in deep, heavy thoughts.

The cynical walls he had built around his heart over decades of dealing with greedy corporate sharks were beginning to show unexpected cracks.

"Sir, what happened to you? What are you thinking so deeply about?" John asked gently, noticing the unusual silence from his formidable boss.

"Can I call Sanjay now? He needs to know you are in the hospital."

"No way," Martin snapped immediately, his voice turning ice-cold and unyielding.

"Never tell Sanjay about this. He will get depressed if he knows his father is ill. After some time, when the time is right, I will tell him myself."

John sighed softly, nodding in compliance. "Then what are you thinking so deeply about, sir? You look troubled."

"John, when I ask you to buy medicine, you are working under me for many years," Martin said, his tone turning sharp and analytical as he began to lay out his thoughts.

"But when I asked you just now, you didn't use your own money, and you immediately mentioned the bundles of cash money in my bag."

John lowered his head, understanding the subtle reprimand. "Sorry, sir. I didn't mean to, but to buy with my own money... you just hate when others use their own money for you. That's why I asked about your bag."

"John, leave that," Martin said, waving his hand to dismiss the apology. This wasn't about a lecture; it was about a profound puzzle he needed to solve.

"I have a very important thing to tell you. Today, a young girl joined me in this hospital. After the doctor asked for an emergency payment, she paid all the hospital bills out of her own pocket. But later, the nurse explicitly gave her my bag of money and asked her to pay for the prescription medicine bill also."

Martin paused, leaning forward to look at his assistant with intense focus. "John, what will she do when she saw my money? Guess it."

John smiled respectfully, confident in his understanding of basic human greed.

"What is there to guess, sir? It is simple. When she saw that massive amount of money, she undoubtedly took her paid amount back from the bag, and then used your cash to pay for the medicine also, especially because the nurse saw her. Otherwise, if she was alone, she may take even more money for helping you out."

Martin shook his head slowly, a profound sense of shock and wonder still echoing in his chest. "John, will you keep quiet? That did not happen here at all. Full reverse. When she saw the money, she completely ignored it and still went and bought the medicine with her own money!"

John’s jaw dropped in absolute, stunned disbelief. He stared at Martin, trying to process the idea of someone ignoring a fortune.

"That is simple... I think she is playing a long game, sir. She must be expecting much more from you legally after you wake up and find out who she is."

"John, go from here," Martin commanded, his voice sharp and determined to get to the absolute truth.

"Find out all her details and inform me immediately. Do exactly as I say."

"Yes, sir," John said. He bowed respectfully and quickly left the VIP room through the back door, disappearing into the hospital corridors to run a thorough background check.

After some time, John called Martin back on his private line.

 Martin answered it instantly.
"Sir, her name is Sara," John reported directly over the phone line.

"She came to our office building today specifically for the recruitment interview drive. Her dad works in a small private company. And the more important thing is... she paid your expensive hospital bill using the money from a crucial loan her family had just taken out."

Martin's breath hitched in his throat. A loan? She had willfully sacrificed her own family's hard-earned, essential loan money for a complete, casually dressed stranger?

"I have my plan follow my instructions..." Martin murmured to himself, his voice trailing off as the gears in his mind turned rapidly.

His entire worldview was fracturing. He had devised a brutal, low-level corporate test for Sanjay's mysterious girlfriend, fully believing she was a gold-digger who would fail.

Yet, this very girl had just saved his life at her own family's expense.

His perspective on Sanjay's choices was beginning to completely shatter.

Meanwhile, Sara was still sitting outside in the busy hospital corridor, her posture slumped with exhaustion as she waited near Martin's room to ensure he was fully safe.

Suddenly, her sharp instincts kicked in. Her attention was caught by two sketchy-looking men who were roaming suspiciously near the VIP room.

They didn't wear uniforms like doctors, nor did they look like worried family members of patients.

They looked around nervously, shifting their eyes constantly, and then they sat down on the benches in the main waiting area, right next to Sara.

They began talking in low, hurried whispers, completely unaware that Sara could hear every single word they were saying.

"Hey, I heard that employee joined in this hospital," the first person whispered, leaning in close.

The second person scoffed, his face darkening. "Oh, you mean the Senior Manager in Roy Enterprises? We have to get his fingerprints on these fraudulent documents today. But one thing... we must not make any disturbance to others or make a noisy scene. Otherwise, our document plan will be a total waste."

"Yes, sure," the first man replied, nodding darkly. "We have to wait until night, or wait until the other person leaves the area."

Sara's blood ran ice-cold as she listened to them.

They were criminals trying to illegally steal a Senior Manager's fingerprints to forge corporate documents! She shrank back into her seat, holding her breath and trying to look as small and unnoticeable as possible so they wouldn't realize she was listening to their dangerous plot.

Before she could fully process the danger or decide how to warn security, Sara's phone suddenly vibrated violently in her hand.

An unknown corporate number was flashing on the screen.

With a trembling finger, she quickly answered it.

"Hello?"
"Is this Sara?" a formal, professional human resources voice asked from the other end.

"We are from Roy Enterprises. We hear the news that you help one person today and miss the interview because of it. So if you attend within tonight, by 5:00 PM, you can still get the job."

The line suddenly went dead, leaving Sara staring at her dark phone screen in absolute, overwhelming shock.

What should I do? Sara thought desperately, her mind racing in a million directions.

She looked toward the closed door of the patient room where the elderly man lay completely vulnerable, and then she glanced toward the two suspicious men who were still whispering their criminal plans nearby.

She was trapped in a agonizing dilemma, caught between chasing her lifelong career dream at Roy Enterprises and protecting a helpless patient from a dangerous criminal trap.

Thinking deeply, she knew she had to make a definitive choice right from there.
