SORRY, SIS

Episode 3: The Danger Zone

The dinner table incident was just the warning shot. I knew Vance wouldn’t be able to sleep. A green-flag man like him carries guilt like a physical weight.

At 2:00 AM, my bedroom door creaked open.
I didn't blink. I had been sitting in the dark, waiting for him. The moonlight cut through my window, highlighting Vance’s tall frame as he stepped into my room, closing the door softly behind him. He was wearing grey sweatpants and a loose t-shirt, looking completely exhausted.
"Ren," he whispered, his voice strained and thick with panic. "We need to talk about what happened at dinner. It was an accident, right? You... you just lost your footing?"
He was practically begging me to give him an excuse. He wanted so badly to believe I was innocent.
I stood up slowly, walking toward him until there was barely any air left between us. I looked up at him through my eyelashes, my eyes wide and dark. "Do you really think it was an accident, Vance?"
"Ren, stop," he breathed, taking a panicked step back until his shoulders hit my closed door. He swallowed hard, his gray eyes searching mine desperately. "Maya loves you. I love Maya. You’re my future brother-in-law. Whatever game you’re playing, it ends right now."
He was trying so hard to be the good guy. But his chest was heaving, and his pulse was racing so fast I could see it jumping in his neck.
I didn't argue. Instead, I took a step closer, crowding his space. I reached out, my fingers trembling slightly as I gently touched the fabric of his shirt right over his heart. "Then why did you come to my room in the middle of the night, Vance? If it was just an accident... why are you so afraid of me?"
Vance froze under my touch, his breath hitching. His green-flag protective instincts were completely short-circuiting. Before he could answer, the floorboards groaned in the hallway outside. Maya was waking up.
Panic flashed in his eyes. Without thinking, Vance gripped my waist, pulling me flat against his chest to hide us both in the deep shadows behind the door. We held our breath, our bodies pressed tightly together in the dark until Maya’s footsteps faded back into her room.
When he finally realized how close we were, Vance let go of me like he’d been burned. He opened the door and slipped out into the hallway without saying another word.
He thought he escaped. He was wrong. Round one belonged to me.

The Next Afternoon.
"Ren, I'm heading out to the salon and then meeting the girls for coffee!" Maya yelled from the front door. "Vance is in the living room watching the game. Don't bother him!"
"Have fun, Sis!" I called back sweetly from the kitchen.
The heavy click of the front door signaled her departure. She was going to be gone for at least three hours.
We were completely alone.
I poured two glasses of iced juice and walked slowly into the living room. Vance was sitting on the couch, the TV buzzing with a sports broadcast he clearly wasn't paying attention to. The moment I entered, his body went rigid.
"Brought you a drink," I purred, stepping around the coffee table.
Instead of handing it to him normally, I intentionally leaned too far forward. My hand "slipped," and the cold glass tilted, spilling the sticky, sweet juice right across the front of his grey sweatpants.
"Damn it, Ren!" Vance gasped, standing up instantly and pulling the wet fabric away from his skin.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry! I'm so clumsy today!" I cried out, my voice dripping with fake, frantic panic.
Before he could grab a napkin, I dropped to my knees right in front of him. I grabbed a kitchen towel and began pressuring it firmly against his thigh, wiping the liquid away. I made sure my hands moved slowly, deliberately pushing past the boundaries of a normal accident.
Vance let out a sharp, ragged gasp. He gripped my wrists, his large hands locking around them with sudden, dominant force to stop my movements.
"Ren. Stop. Look at me," Vance growled, his voice dropping into a dark, dangerously low register. The green-flag prince was finally losing his grip, his eyes burning with a mix of anger and intense, suppressed desire. "Do you have any idea what you are doing to me right now?"
I looked up from my position on the floor, resting my chin slightly against his knee. I let the innocent mask drop completely, flashing him a sharp, toxic, victorious smirk.
"I know exactly what I'm doing, Vance," I whispered, leaning into his touch. "The question is... what are you going to do about it?"
