The Fallen Betrayer

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Jul 22, 2026

The following morning, Bridgette and Marvin woke up, had breakfast, and flew to the academy together. When they got there, they found Walter, Bruce, Hermione, Matilda, and Rhiannon gossiping about a student who was searching for Bridgette.

"I can't believe Beckett is looking for her. He hardly knows anything about her," Hermione said, sounding annoyed. "You're just jealous because your crush is looking for someone else," Walter teased. "Hermione, we discussed this; just forget about that guy," Rhiannon said, sounding stressed.

"You know how she gets when his name comes up," Matilda remarked, clearly uninterested in the conversation. "If Beckett is looking for her, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Plus, I’m way more handsome than he is," Bruce said with a big smile.

Bridgette and Marvin were standing behind them without being noticed until Marvin approached them, causing the whole group to stop talking. The girls walked over to Bridgette, informing her that a guy was looking for her and that he would definitely stop by or be in one of her classes.

The bell rang, and everyone went inside. Bridgette's first class was math. Math was her strongest subject, but she worried about what others thought of her. She took her usual seat by the window until she noticed someone looking at her.

"You must be Bridgette. I'm Beckett. You might know me as one of the most popular people in the whole academy." "Beckett, right? I'll remember your name for now."

When the teacher entered, the lesson began. During the class, Bridgette was the only one solving problems on the board, leaving her classmates, including the teacher and Beckett, stunned. The bell rang for the next class.

"Wait for me, smart girl," Beckett said as he caught up. "Why are you following me? We're not that close," Bridgette replied, feeling irritated.

Bridgette went into her science class while Beckett headed to his ancient language class.

An angel was watching them from a distance, trying to bring them closer together.

"Clyde, stop stalking people; it's weird," Edwin said, pulling him away. Clyde started telling Edwin how those two angels could become the next popular couple in the academy.

The bell rang for the third time, signaling a free period. Bridgette headed to the empty classroom where the author was set to speak. She was the first to arrive and settled in comfortably, choosing the second seat in the second row on the right side. Soon, many students began to trickle in, including Edwin. He found an empty seat next to Bridgette and took it. He glanced at her for a moment before turning to face the other direction.

"Wow. Is this the angel Clyde mentioned earlier? She's really beautiful, but why is such a pretty girl here at this special lecture?" Edwin wondered. "Hello everyone, I appreciate you all coming to my lecture. My name is Albert P., and I was once a student like you many years ago. I will answer any questions you have at the end. Now, shall we begin?"

Albert P. kicked off his lecture about how ancient languages are disappearing, discussing the history of the kingdom from its origins to the present, and even mentioning Stella.

"Any questions for me? Feel free to ask." One student asked, "How come you look so young after all these years?" The whole class laughed. "To answer your question, angels don’t age if they take care of themselves properly. But here’s the catch: when your child has kids, you become a grandparent, and that’s when your looks start to change from young to old." Many students began asking silly questions, and Albert P. responded in the most amusing ways until Edwin raised his hand.

"We actually have a class on ancient languages here at the academy, but it only has room for ten students, and the administration is thinking about cutting it. Is learning an ancient language really that interesting?" Before the language you’re speaking now, an ancient language was our official one. However, our official language has been swapped out for this spoken one. It would be really sad if they got rid of it because you'd be losing a part of your history."

The bell rang for lunch, causing all the students to rush to the door, leaving just two people in the empty classroom.

"You seem oddly familiar. Have we met before?" "I think you might be mistaking me for someone else." "Are you positive? You look like an old friend I talked to last. I bet you have questions since you were really paying attention during my lecture. I'll jot down my address on a piece of paper, and you can swing by tomorrow afternoon."

Bridgette took the paper, tucked it away, dashed to the door, and went to the cafeteria.

In the cafeteria, Marvin looked anxious, but his friends reassured him that she would find them.

"Where's Hermione?" Matilda asked, adjusting her new glasses after buying new ones. "She's over there with Beckett, and it looks like they're coming this way," Rhiannon replied, shoveling food into her mouth with a spoon. "Hey everyone, Beckett is joining us today," Hermione said with big, hopeful eyes. "Is this seat taken?" Beckett asked, pointing to the empty spot next to Marvin.

Bridgette entered the cafeteria, picked up her lunch plate, and headed to the table, but someone was blocking her view and asked a question, so she replied, "Yes, it's taken, excuse me, I'm really hungry."

Bridgette continued to where Marvin was sitting. She sat down and started eating, while Hermione was wide-eyed at Beckett, who was looking at Bridgette.

"Hey Bridgette, where did you go after the second period?" Marvin asked. "Oh, I went to that lecture about the author. I had no idea this school offers an ancient language class. But I heard from some students that they might shut it down," Bridgette said excitedly. "Ancient language class? I'm in that class right now. Our teacher suggested we recruit more students since there are only 10 of us. If you're interested, here, fill out this form and come with me to get into the class," Beckett proposed.

Beckett passed the form to Bridgette so she could complete it.

After she finished, the lunch bell rang, and they both got up from the table to go to class.

When they got to the classroom, they saw more students filling out the form at their desks. Beckett gave the form to the teacher and introduced Bridgette to her. The teacher suddenly leaped from her chair in excitement because more girls were joining her class. They both started to leave when Beckett stopped her.

"Before you go, can I get your number? I can let you know when the form is approved," Beckett asked, extending his arm. "Isn't that a bit much?" Bridgette replied, looking a bit suspicious. Beckett reassured her that she didn't need to worry. Her number would just be added to a group chat by the students in the class.

Bridgette wrote her number on his phone and went to her next class. Her next class was geography, which was pretty easy since she already knew the material. The school day ended around 2 PM, and all the angels flew away; some stayed for their clubs or extra classes.

Bridgette told Marvin that she had to go somewhere but would return before sunset. Marvin gave her a weird look, nodded, and left with his friends. Once she was sure no one was around, Bridgette got her wings ready and flew off to the author's place.

When she arrived at the author's house, she could hear a foreign language coming from inside. Just as she was about to knock, the door swung open, revealing Albert P. with a wary expression. He stepped outside, glanced around, and urged Bridgette to come in quickly.

They both entered, with soft music playing in the background. Albert P. offered Bridgette some refreshments before they began their conversation. Bridgette requested spring flower tea, and Albert P. went to the kitchen to make it while Bridgette started to search for more clues. Before Albert P. returned, her appearance began to change.

"Hey, I brought your tea, so I’ll just set it down here—" Albert P. said, staring at Bridgette as she transformed. Bridgette turned to face Albert P. for a few moments before looking down. The uniform she had been wearing was no longer the same; it had changed back to the outfit she wore on her first day at the academy. Realizing she had been discovered, she decided to reveal her true identity as Stella.

"Hey, long time no see, buddy," Stella said, taking her tea and sitting on the couch. "I knew you looked familiar. Stella, it’s been forever. I’m so glad you’re still around. But I’m confused. Why are you here looking like that, and what really happened?" Albert P. asked, shocked. "I know you want to hear the truth about everything that happened. I’d be happy to share my side of the story. But I need to ask you for a big favor," Stella replied.

"What kind of favor?" "I read your book and the secret chapter. What I’m about to tell you, I want you to write a book about it so that the brainwashed angels in this kingdom can learn the real history."

Albert P. pulled out a notebook and a pencil from the drawer beside him, opened it to a blank page, and got ready to write as soon as Stella began to speak.
