The Fallen Betrayer

Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Jul 29, 2026

As the day came to a close, Bridgette was gathering her things in geography class, the only class she had with Marvin. Marvin was still concerned about her and gently tapped her shoulder.

"Hey Bridgette, are you alright?" "Yeah, I’m fine. I don’t know why I said something so random like that. Beckett just doesn’t get that I’m not interested. He reminds me of the person who killed my first love." "What happened? And why has no one ever talked about this before?" "I think they just didn’t want to ruin their image by bringing it up."

While Bridgette and Marvin were still chatting, they started to leave when Walter stopped them.

"Marvin, can I talk to you for a moment?" "Uh, I can’t. I’m going to take Bridgette somewhere." "Bridgette can join us; we’re going to check out the other side of the kingdom. It’s a place where darkness takes over and no one dares to go at night, only during the day."

Without thinking twice, Bridgette took Marvin’s hand and followed Walter. The three of them stayed close together and flew until they met up with the group.

Bridgette felt a wave of nostalgia as she stood in front of what used to be her home. It was the same house she had seen when she first arrived here. Just five blocks away was the green house, the one she had described so beautifully in her notes.

"Walter, why are we here?" Hermione asked. "Come on, let’s have some fun exploring the other side of the kingdom. Plus, nobody comes here at night. Are you scared?" Walter replied, chasing Hermione around. "No one is going anywhere until we check out this burned-down house and the other one that’s five blocks down."

Walker and the others carefully flew over the fence and entered through a doorway that used to have a door. Rhiannon used her magic to light up the dark, abandoned house. They split into two groups: Bruce, Hermione, and Matilda made up the first group, while Walter, Marvin, Rhiannon, and Bridgette formed the second group.

The two groups went off to different areas to see what they could discover. Bridgette told her group she wanted to explore the second floor alone. They agreed, and Bridgette quickly flew up to the second floor. She entered her room and was hit by a wave of memories, causing her soul to leave her body for a moment before returning.

Using her magic to create a light sensation, she turned to the closet. She opened it and found her old memoirs, including the original blueprint by Leonard.

"Oh Leonard, I’m getting closer to uncovering more about this kingdom since you passed away and what that monster Kian did in your place. I wish I could tell you in person how much I miss you. If only heaven would let me speak to you for just a moment, but it won’t after I betrayed our kingdom by becoming queen in the demon kingdom. Your promise about getting revenge on Kian—I'm working on it."

Bridgette had just finished whispering when she heard Marvin calling her name loudly. She quickly wiped her tears away and realized her true identity was on the verge of being revealed. In a hurry, she raised her finger and cast a spell to hide it before Marvin noticed her sitting on the floor with a box.

"Were you crying?" Marvin asked as he wrapped his arms around her. "Yeah, it was just something really emotional. It was about my first love. I'm taking this box because it holds some old memories of him," Bridgette replied, holding the box tightly.

Everyone was outside waiting for them. Marvin gestured for them to avoid mentioning anything since they could see her face was puffy from crying.

"Let’s head to the other house. I heard that one used to be the most expensive," Walter said, walking ahead before stopping suddenly. "What’s wrong, Walter? What do you see?" Matilda asked. "I see a blue house and a yellow one. I don’t remember hearing about this before," Walter said as he flew ahead, leaving the group behind, and stood in front of the green, blue, and yellow houses.

"Oh my. So the legend is real," Walter whispered. "You mean the legend of the three houses that have stood here for so many years?" Bridgette asked, moving closer to him while still holding the box. "Do you know anything about the three houses, Bridgette?" Walter asked, turning to her. "Actually, I do, from what I’ve heard. The green house was said to be the most beautiful and expensive in the whole kingdom, with stunning glass windows and a lovely garden. The blue house seemed completely normal, just with bright colors that stood out. And the yellow house is tough to describe since it was known as 'the glass house,' which included a swimming pool made entirely of glass."

Everyone gasped at Bridgette’s description. Just as they were about to explore, a bright light approached them, stopping them in their tracks.

"What are you all doing here? Don't you know this is private property? Go home!" The group scattered as this mysterious angel approached them.

It was a Saturday; everyone in the kingdom was sleeping in, and most shops were shut down. Bridgette, who was the most exhausted after the chaos of the previous night, chose to sleep longer. Marvin, on the other hand, went to the library to return the book that Bridgette was supposed to bring back the next day, but she couldn’t.

"Um, where do I return this old book?" Marvin asked the librarian. "You can hand the book to me. I'll take it and put it back where it belongs," replied Courtney the librarian. She took the book from him and headed to the basement to place it back on a dusty shelf labeled "Old Archives."

After that, she returned to her desk and continued her work before they closed early for the day. Marvin decided to hang around for a few minutes until he overheard a conversation between Beckett and Hermione.

"Why can’t you go after me? I’ve liked you forever. Why someone else?" Hermione whispered angrily. "Look, I know you have a huge crush on me. Marvin told me the other day, but I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as her," Beckett whispered happily. "So, I’m not good enough for you? I’m not beautiful?" "Honestly, you’re average. If you were like Bridgette, maybe I’d date you, but you’re out of my league." "Fine, I’ll stop crushing on you, but you’ll regret it later."

Hermione walked away from the bookshelf while Beckett went the other way. Marvin, who was hiding, slowly got up from the floor just before getting knocked out by a book that fell from above. He picked up the book, put it back where it fell from, but before he could put it back, he noticed a glow.

There was a golden light shining from the cover. He cautiously opened it and saw a stream of golden stars coming out. He quickly closed the book, returned it, and left the library without a second thought.

He got back in less than 15 minutes to find Bridgette still asleep. Marvin, having exhausted all his energy, decided to take another nap.

"Why can't Hermione get the message that I'm not into her? I really wasn't into her at all. When Bridgette showed up at the academy, my heart totally raced. Plus, I said sorry on Wednesday for what happened in the cafeteria. If we kick things off as good friends, before I know it, she'll agree to be my girlfriend."

Beckett laughed so hard that everyone in the kingdom could hear him from his room.

While sobbing outside a café, Bruce noticed Hermione and approached her to offer comfort.

"Don’t cry. Who made you upset?" he asked, gently lifting her chin. "Beckett told me I’m not as pretty as Bridgette. He said if I were beautiful, he would date me, but I’m just average. So today, I decided to stop liking him, but it’s really tough," Hermione replied, her head hanging low with tears still streaming down her face. "No wonder Marvin was right about him. He knows Beckett better than anyone. Plus, there’s definitely a guy out there who will appreciate you for who you are."

"Marvin and Beckett? Were they friends?" "They used to be best friends, but something went wrong between them two years ago." "Oh, I didn’t know that." "I know this isn’t the best moment, but I like you, Hermione. I’ve always liked you, even though I know I can’t compare to that jerk. But I promise I can treat you better."

There was a moment of silence as Hermione considered Bruce's offer.

"Thanks for understanding. I won’t disappoint you. By the way, have you noticed anything about Marvin recently?" "Now that you mention it, after a month, I’ve seen Marvin being more attentive to Bridgette. Do you think he has feelings for her?" "I doubt it, but Bridgette mentioned she’s not looking to date anyone."

Back at Marvin's house, they both got up and made their way to the living room. Their stomachs began to rumble from hunger, so they decided to put on some comfy clothes and go grab lunch.

It had been a long time since Bridgette had visited the plaza after the festival, where the three boys had disappeared. She took a close look at the statue until Marvin returned with sandwiches and lemonades.

They settled on a nearby bench, enjoying the view and the nice atmosphere. Just as Marvin was about to start a conversation with Bridgette, he received a phone call from his parents. He apologized and walked over to a lamp post to take the call.

Bridgette stood up and went back to the statue, but this time she reached out to touch it. She sensed something unusual, just like the last time, but it felt as if someone was observing her from a distance. Using her mixed [angel/demon] magic, she closed her eyes and opened a portal, stepping inside while keeping an eye out for Marvin's return.
